When it comes to dealing with the council and the public and being the person always caught in the middle, there is nobody else that I can think of that could handle it better.

Carrie Lacher, will be a good choice for Mayor. I am just glad that this issue came about before the election so people will know what they are getting prior.

Re: Public meeting on Critical Areas Ordinance Tuesday in Friday Harbor High School's Hall Gym - Journal of the San Juans

Why Stop at 200 feet, lets go 2 miles.

Re: Jobs at stake as county prepares $1 million in budget cuts - Journal of the San Juans

I like both Idea 2 & 3! I will ask your tech's to look up the word situational awareness. A big thanks to her, she did not let emotion and poor judgement sway her into a poor decision.

This has nothing to do with low income housing and everything to do with a person with a chunk of property they can't subdivide in the county. Some of the council members have an emotional involvment being home trust members themselves. Its sad that they could not seperate that from finacial gain, and in this case loss.

I am so happy that I can expect another wonderful increase in our utility bill's each month. Thanks Alot!

I wish I owned a couple hundred acres out side the town limits, that way I could pork belly 5 token percent into the home trusts coffers and triple the value of the existing property.

Is it to much to ask for you to listen to the people that are in the trenches already? The people that really do understand what the impact, this decision will have on the rest of us? At what point will you wake up and understand that you can't keep voting yes everytime someone, or some cause comes calling. Eventually you will either bankrupt yourselves or the people that elected you to office.

WAKE UP!

Re: Frightening experience for islander at border; guns drawn in case of mistaken identity - Journal of the San Juans

This reminds you of the SS, Nazi fame?
This was a case of mistaken ID. They had a hit for a person with the same name and date of birth, the guy was considered armed and dangerous. They pulled him out at gunpoint to protect themselves from someone they considered a threat. As long as Mike did not pull a gun out on them he was in no danger, these are trained professionals.
They do this for a living so it is really hard for someone who does not see the entire picture to understand. If this had been the Mike Greene they were looking for who was armed and dangerous, how would you have them pull him out of the vehicle? Should they send one person unarmed to deal with a potentially armed and dangerous felon with the means and reputation do great bodily harm. Put yourself in the mind of the criminal try to see it the way a criminal would, one person telling you to get out of the vehicle vs. 10. If it’s just one the criminal might think he has a chance to get away and then attempt it. With ten the odds are not in his/her favor he might think twice before he goes for his weapon or attempts to flee.
It’s really easy to take a cheap shot at someone you do not know, to compare these fathers, mothers, sons & daughters to Nazi’s? I doubt you are old enough or have the life experience to even understand your own statement. I think you are just as fed up with the society that you have helped create and are taking out your frustrations on the face of government.
Opening up our borders is not going to solve problems it will create bigger problems. We need these people right where they are. There are a lot of bad people in this world.
I am sure it seems excessive to one of the good people like Mike Greene. When the professionals at our borders don’t make a show in force there is a greater chance that they could be harmed or killed. The CPB officers performed how they are trained to deal with a potential threat and everyone got to go home. The methods they use are proven from past incidents where people lost their lives in service to their country.
I am very happy with our US Customs & Border Protections divisions here locally and abroad. Keep up your diligence and know that at least one person is grateful for your sacrifices and stead fast guard on our borders. Thank You!

Re: PeaceHealth contract completed, commission will vote March 18 - Journal of the San Juans

Always makes me happy to see people who "moved" here try to tell us people who were born here how things should be.

Peace Health is offering a great deal to everyone. We will not have to fund a new Tax to support our failing facility to try to keep it above water for the next ten years. This will allow us to have better more advanced medical equipment here on the island. That way when your child gets hit by a baseball and needs a Cat scan, we can do it here. If the same thing was to happen in the here and now i would have to follow the helicopter to seattle in a charted plane.

Simple math shows that the facility we have now is about to go underwater, so if you do not want Peace Health to PARTNER up with us, please feel free to enlighten us on how you plan to pay for the same care we get today.

Stop crying about your rights and solve the problem there are a lot of people involved in the planning process. These people have looked at it from all the angles, they have and continued to look out for the best interests of the people who live on the island.

Re: San Juan Island School Board cuts funding for most sports; proposes contract with Island Rec - Journal of the San Juans

I could not be more happy with our Parks and Rec, I think sports are as important as theater. You can learn just as much from sports as you can from other elective studies.

There is no reason why we can't play sports that do not cost as much or force us to travel as far. When i read the above posts i can't help but think of the kid on the playground that was always picked last for games on the school ground having his/her last word today.

Re: Reaves: 'Even if you sentence me to 99 years, I can't bring my brother back' - Journal of the San Juans

Reaves was also ordered to pay $900 in fines and fees, and $6,037 in restitution, an amount already paid by the court's crime victim's account to cover cost of his brother's burial. He will serve up to 48 months of probation, depending on a recommendation by state Corrections officials, following his release.

What about the $12,000.00 Airlift fee, the $60,000 ER bill? I guess we will pick that up, we should since we saved so much on a trial. What about the 4 short years he will be rehabilitating. I supose we should pick that up as well. This system is so broken its not even funny. The reason he is not going to pick up the tab is because we stop holding people accountable some time in the past 25 years.

Re: Reaves: 'Even if you sentence me to 99 years, I can't bring my brother back' - Journal of the San Juans

My Comments are spot on. I call it like it is. There is no fantasy, just the dark side of reality that most people like yourself refuse to face. We will wait the 4 short years for this young upstanding member of our community to be released back into the wilds. I give him 6 months before he slips back into his old ways.

Re: Reaves: 'Even if you sentence me to 99 years, I can't bring my brother back' - Journal of the San Juans

I know how active they were in the community, no chance I would ever let any children around either of these two wonderful people.

Re: Reaves: 'Even if you sentence me to 99 years, I can't bring my brother back' - Journal of the San Juans

Reaves: 'Even if you sentence me to 99 years, I can't bring my brother back'

I can think of a better punishment, but then we would have to find somone else for the youth of Friday Harbor to worship.

Re: Reaves pleads guilty to manslaughter, sentencing Feb. 13 - Journal of the San Juans

Just glad we are tough on crime this will send a clear message that San Juan County does not mess around with Thugs and Criminals.

Re: Four teens face alcohol charges following weekend rollover - Journal of the San Juans

Its a story that is repeated over and over and over!
