I agree the coverup did give a competitive advantage, but was it solely for football or could it perhaps be spread across all atheltic programs? If so, football shouldn't bear the brunt of the sanctions.

Yes he does. He was the leader of that program. He reported it to his superiors--right. He was the supreme leader in fact. If he wasn't lucid enough to act then he no longer should have been in their employ.

There is no presumption of innocence in the court of public opinion. Just what about child rape causes even a moment of hesitation in someone to report it? If there is a situation where you err on the side of caution this is it.

Paterno can not continue coaching because the university can't have this subject brought up every time he steps behind a mic after a game. While I'm sure that Paterno will eventually answer questions, it will no longer be as a representative of PSU.

I dunno Regan. What would you have done if someone in your work place came to you with a similar finding? I know what I would have done. I would have reported it to my superiors AND the police (assuming I found the story credible). Why should Paterno be any different? Does he not have a moral obligation, or did 60 years of leading young men immunize him from that?
