Be happy in your "success" but give others the same freedom. Elder Oaks was speaking to his own congregation and standing up for the beliefs of the church. Their Articles of Faith stating core beliefs lists #11 "We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may." They stay out of your business, you can give them the same courtesy.

Re: Podcaster Risks Excommunication For Defending Gay Mormons

In a church that promotes choices, these decisions are not made to restrict freedom of speech or beliefs, but about individuals who are publicly contesting core principles and disrupting others. Many faiths do the same thing, but it doesn't become a media target. If you don't agree with one faith, find one that you can support. Easy. No drama required.

Re: LDS Church Seeks Member Feedback

Thank you for this clear and reasonable explanation. In Church history, Elijah Abel 1808 – 1884, was a black elder, served in several missions, ordained to the priesthood, and was a member of the seventy in the Latter Day Saint movement. When his family moved to Utah, he remained a member of the Seventy and is buried in Salt Lake Cemetery. Records show at least two of his sons were ordained to the priesthood. There were other black priesthood holders in the early church. The policy that blacks couldn't hold the priesthood came in 1852, with Brigham Young's statement that in the future, blacks would have all the privileges of the Church. We don't know the reason, but this history helped me resolve my questions about the subject.

Re: Meet the Mormons – About

Hi, Sarah! Your missionary leader can check with your Stake Public Affairs representative who may be working on this effort. One easy way is just tell members and investigators to go to this website for a preview and request the film in your area. Our Stake is working with local theaters, distributing member handouts, working with community media and social media, etc. Thanks for the idea - we'll make sure our missionaries have half page flyers, too! Thanks for your work...

Re: Utah polygamist returns to a world without a definition of marriage | Catholic World Report - Global Church news and views

As much I agree with John Doman 3 days ago, "marriage is the best way children are raised In a stable environment and grow into healthy adults", "Society and families are THE SAME THING. Healthy families, healthy society.", I disagree with "Government has a compelling interest in preserving marriage" Government is showing their interest is in destroying the institute of marriage. We see jrb16915's example everywhere - men with multiple children by multiple women. Our government subsidizes this American lifestyle with benefits like welfare, food cards, etc. calculated per child. We're importing minor children and depositing them without family ties across the country. Many Latinos with family values lose those foundations once they are absorbed into this dependent culture. All of these "benefits" are leaving children adrift without any knowledge of what a family represents and setting them up to grow into adulthood multiplying exponentially the number of dependent families. These are far more devastating influences than stable same sex marriages or polygamy. Certainly in this huge system of helping our society, we can find a way to use those billions to encourage marriage and stable families. Every religion, political entity, and individual has an interest in supporting healthy family models in this country rather than the unconnected, self-centered society we're establishing.

Re: Comments for

People love to hate, don't they? I don't know national numbers for rx abuse, but because Utah has a problem and are largely Mormon, doesn't equal that Mormons have a special problem. When you Google rx drug abuse, you don't get a page full of Mormons. On a state map at DrugAbuse.com, Utah has the lowest percentage of the western states. Should we play the blame game on hippies? Maybe it's the fear of earthquakes? Oregon, Washington, and Idaho have the highest rates. Because they're in the corner of the map? Oregon and Washington because they're green or it rains? Let's recognize the Mormon church for opening up for you to see them and their 12-step program provided to members and non-members free of charge. I don't have a dog in this hunt, I just did a little research. Let's spend more time helping to make things better in this world instead of spitting from the sidelines.

Re: Poll: Utah Republicans and Mormons Disagree with Obama's Immigration Order

With Obama, it's more about his dictatorship and sealing votes for the Democratic party than families. The families can remain together, in another country. Giving birth in our country doesn't give you citizenship. So often we don't know about these behind-the-scenes rule changes that produce dramatic changes in the lives of individuals and business - in this case, the real estate market. I have a 5200 sq ft custom home on 50 acres just appraised at $380,000. It cost $560,000 to build this house, not bad on a square footage basis. However, since a small part of my lower level is below grade, it is excluded from the appraisal. If ANY PART of the first level of a home is below grade, it is excluded from the appraisal. This cuts the appraised value in half, basically. This is a disaster for my valuation to sell my home. In their supposed attempt to end a broken system, I wonder how intentional they were when the new guidelines tanked the high end homes of America?

Re: 9 Things To Ask Before Selling Your Home

Traveling through West Virginia June 25 I heard your broadcast about getting a fair home appraisal. I just had my $630,000 5300 sq ft 2-level custom built ICF home on 50 acres appraise for an equity line at $380,000. Needless to say, I was shocked. After talking with the appraiser who said his hands were tied by Federal guidelines, I did some research. As it turns out after the collapse of the mortgage bubble from freewheeling appraisals, our government responded with new guidelines in 2010 "in order to provide fair valuation for homeowners". To them, that means excluding any level of the house that is below grade in any part regardless of level of finish. Mine is fully finished with custom installation of tile, granite, dedicated HVAC system, etc. This left me with 2650 sq ft, less 2 bedrooms and 1.5 baths. How can this be considered fair?

I'm spreading the word and working with local real estate agents to get this fixed. It's a cascading problem since buyers can't afford to buy at a fair price, sellers have to lower prices to close a sale, and area comps suffer, continuing to erode market values over time. Please spread the word and get everyone on the bandwagon to overturn this situation.

Re: Cleveland, OH: Free Caller ID for 2162083920

The number 216-208-3920 texted "met a fellow Medium that talked to me about you." and a link.
