It would see the directories of movies and literally start playing a random one. It takes a few minutes because my library is kinda big.. so I put my xoom down and walk away from it.. 5 minutes later suddenly the three amigos intro song (where they sing) starts blaring from my xoom. Hilarious, yes - totally :D - but absolutely no video. The interface thinks its loading still and when I exit vlc it keeps playing the audio from the three amigos, I had to hard kill vlc.

Re: Why does information security policy suck, and how do we make it better?

How do we make infosec better?
That my friend, is the two gajillion dollar question.
I'm in that line of work and I can only grasp at a nebulous answer.
The first thing that comes to mind, though, is the overall abject unwillingness to take security seriously. Business folks and executives just want to check a few boxes, and generally dimiss security as part of IT and a cost center, rather than part of legal or risk.
The infosec folks are your digital bodyguards - not treating them as such they wont be of much use.

Also, the CISSP is the MCSE of today, so make sure you know who you're hiring. Just because they have a CISSP does not make them worth hiring. Many CISSPS today have jobs simply because they have the cert, not because they have any experience of expertise.

Re: http://therealkatiewest.tumblr.com/post/3753916513

and start trek, and a couple other movies/shows :D

Re: convergence.

I was put in a very similar situation last year. In about April or May of last year my cable was disconnected due to non payment (long story). Going freelance I took a 66% cut in pay. That meant my normally unnoticed $100 a month for digital cable suddenly became the money I needed to eat with.

I'll tell you - after nearly a year with no cable? The only thing I miss is discovery HD. Everything else I can either torrent down (all my hbo/showtime shows. thank you eztv.it) or watch streaming (thank you hulu, southparkstudios.com and adultswim.com).

I did get pretty accustomed to watching stuff online. Trouble is these guys, just like you mentioned, DEMAND their money - I mean hey, how ELSE are they going to get their new porche ever year?

When I was in England visiting my girlfriends family for the holidays, I wanted to watch Lie to Me. Hulu gave me the finger and told me to take a hike - they didn't service the UK. Thankfully I've recently deployed zipline - a cisco based vpn solution I built for getting you off of unencrypted, unprotected lans - like starbucks and other coffee shops, or barcamps or etech or wherever - where anybody could be listening. Zipline both allows me to feel more secure about the lan that I'm on, and its side effect is that its 'exit node' is my business, with a static IP on time warner cable in the US. So I was able to easily watch everything I normally do, on another continent. (this also told me I need a haaaair more bandwidth)

Re: Pshhh ninja...
