When the amp is biased correctly you should be able to touch the tubes after five minutes or less of turning the amp off.Otherwise they are running too hot.If you hold the back of your hand up next to the tubes you can get a feel for the right bias "heat"coming off the tubes while in operation. If harmonics sound clear and they decay into
silence with no "trash" on the end of the note your bias is fine.

Re: Guitar Amp Repair Part Two

The below info is from one of the top amp techs in town. I will say
that an amp with printed circuit board is one of the favorite amps of
the guy who got this answer for us. I guess until somethings goes
wrong with it...

Clicking usually indicates "arcing" of voltage between two unintended
points. However the new amps have shoestring switching circuits that
become unstable rather quickly.Since the entire amp is on one piece of
plastic, reworking is not an option. Each component is custom made to be
disposable after four years or less. This forces the purchase of a new
unit making the manufacturer happy.Once marketing strips down a
circuit there is so much instability that anything can be the
cause. You can watch the open chassis in a dark room and sometimes you
can actually see the arcing and locate it.
Again; no Chinese or Czech tubes...ever.

Re: Guitar Amp Repair Part Two

I will ask the people I know.

Re: Bruce Cameron – Psychedelic Rock Redux

Thanks for this note. My experience with this one led me to
ultimately buy a PRS Mira, which has quickly become my favorite
guitar. Very light, versatile, and a great tone! The PRS bug is
catching! Thanks for stopping by.

Re: It's Harder to Break a Guitar Than I Thought

Maybe that is an opportunity knocking. Hadn't thought about that but it makes sense. One interesting development is my local Best Buy store now has a guitar shop inside. They used to have cheap started kits around the holidays but this is a lineup of nice gear from several manufacturers. Interesting to see how this works out.

Re: It's Harder to Break a Guitar Than I Thought

Great hearing from you again! I've been doing lots of travel of late (this reply via India) and not posting much. Thanks for visiting.

Re: The Guitar Next Door: 1991 PRS Custom 24

Cool! I picked up a black PRS Mira 24 in a moment of weakness a few months ago (in part because of trying the PRS from this post). It has some of the same feel as the 91 Custom 24 but still has its own personality. Really fun to play and very flexible from a tone standpoint.

Re: Fun With Drop D Tuning

Hey, thanks for reading! Yep, enjoying Linkin Park a lot; the fact the whole
family likes it only helps. Ran across another group Young Knives on TV a
couple weeks ago and been enjoying their Superabundance album. Seems the
trio of guitar, bass, and drums never goes out of style.

Re: My Experience Attending National Guitar Workshop

One thing that surprised me is how many repeat attendees they had.

Re: Tone Tips and Tricks for the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe

Hey man, thanks for this one! I put it down to a new documentation
coordinator coming on the scene and they thought they could shorten the
manual or something.
