I agree with the whole re-branding thing. Hollywood has some trouble keeping with the story's diversity. It's the same with Chinese Cover Girl, Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), playing a Japanese girl in Memoirs of a Geisha. The list goes on. But you can see Jackie Chan doing a more serious role. Plus, this might be a role that really launches Jaden Smith's career, much like his dad's career turn with Ali.

If I could speak fluent Japanese I could communicate better with the teachers I work with. Also, I wouldn't have to hire a Japanese tutor for an upcoming Japanese speech contest. Lots of money saved!

If you look at this from a Western point of view, it's like, "What's the big deal?" But if you've ever looked at it from being in Japan, you'll know that because Jump is considered a boys' magazine, everything should fall into that categorization (i.e. boys on this side, girls on that side). There are a lot of boys in Japan who like manga from shoujo manga magazines as well (Kimi ni Todoke, Nana, etc). I wonder if there will be a subsequent study with boys and shoujo manga magazines...

For books, you should add www.BookDepository.com. It's a UK website that ships free worldwide. The books are new. The only downside is that you can't change the shipping. For most books, it takes about 2 weeks to arrive in Japan. Still, if you want a hardcover, there's no shipping fee!

Haven't played this one yet, but Batman: Arkham City is cool. I loved the Joker and Catwoman. They got all the villains just right! Plus, the story was cool. Not some half-baked, "Let's just put them in some African village" thing like Call of Duty. There was actually a story. Even the one-liners were good. One thing I love about DC: they can stick with their namesake when they really want to (Detective Comics).

You said everything I wanted to say. So bad! For real, Deathstroke is the shit (so much so that Marvel ripped him off with Deadpool). If you watched through the ending credits, you'd see some of the fight between Nightwing and Damian Wayne. Man, Nightwing would've kicked Damian's monkey ass all over the place. Damn, Son of Batman was baaaaaaaaad.

Haha! AWESOME! It's funny because this kanji (rei) can be used for 麗か (uraraka), or "beautiful", and Groucho Marx or the Marx Brothers are not that...not even close to 美しさ or かわいい. Well, "bright" would be OK, but "beautiful"....

I found this manga in Japan! It's beautiful and the characters are complex yet interesting. I'm waiting for the next volumes to come out. To Bidib, I'd say the art is more European than American because of the roundness in their clothes and body shapes (see The Bombyce Network by Cecil and Corbeyan).

Didn't get a demo class, but the people around me said, "You're going to do your introduction 50 times," and they were right. I made my introduction materials, went through tons of ESL books, and thought I was prepared when my supervisor told me to do a mock introduction class. I did it, and my chief said, "The students don't know this word, this word, and that word. Change it." I changed it to be a simple as pie, and they said yes...but it didn't prepare me for my first introduction class. Even with the Japanese teacher, it was scary for me. The good thing was the kids were really excited to meet me, so they would randomly scream out, "Cute! Boyfriend?! どこですんでいるの?!" And this was with a supportive network of the JET Programme.

These scams will only get worse as Japan's economy worsens. For right now, I wouldn't work in Japan. Its economy is declining (increases on cost of living including food, cars, rent, and properties). Most ALTs, private ones especially, will face unpaid overtime ("voluntary overtime"), less pay ("more social taxes, pension payments"), lower benefits ("less bonus money"), and bigger classes (more than 35-40 students per class). Don't work in Japan right now. Wait several years for the economy to improve.

Very cool listen! This is my favorite series and it was great to hear others discuss it in a podcast!

I particularly liked the analogy to the double-edged sword and how it has multiple meanings within the series beyond just the weapon.

The action scenes and actors in Street Fighter Assassin's Fist were great! It wasn't corny or horribly written like the previous Street Fighter movies. Hope you do more movies, Christian!
