We are a rapidly growing network of nearly 22,000 businesses all proudly owned by veterans (SDVOSBs and VOSBs). We are constantly being contacted by government agencies and prime/sub contractors looking for a specific type of business to fill a need in a project. In addition: while we get contacted occasionally by a member who has closed their business down, we get 100x more contacts by veterans who recently started a business.

Ok... we are all asking the same question: how in the world can somebody start a company and fraudulently land $25,000,000 in government contracts when the average Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business (SDVOSB)/ Veteran Owned Business is having a tough time just getting any government contract at all? This problem is much bigger than it seems!

We get hundreds of calls and emails a week about the CVE (Center for
Veterans Enterprise), getting verified, how it works, etc. One thing we
can definitely say is that the majority of the VOBs/SDVOSBs we talk to
(ourselves included) feel the system is severely
broken and in need of a major overhaul. It would be great if the VA
could continue to handle this (albeit after a major overhaul), but at
this point most VOSBs/SDVOSBs would settle for just getting things fixed
and working smoothly... no matter which agency oversees it!

The last survey we conducted showed overwhelmingly that Americans (especially fellow veterans, active duty and their respective families) love to work with fellow military veterans. Whether a real estate agent, home inspector, mortgage broker... you name it... Americans with military backgrounds prefer to work with others with military backgrounds. We work with over 10,000 veteran owned businesses from around the country. We have several hundred members who are home inspectors, real estate agents and more (as well as doctors, lawyers, restaurant owners... you name it). The one thing we absolutely know is that support for businesses/agencies owned by prior and current military members continues to grow. As fellow veterans, we couldn't be happier!

The military really is the ultimate fraternity! From hiring fellow veterans to contracting with/shopping at their respective businesses, at the end of the day it's a "feel good" decision. We created VeteranOwnedBusiness.com 3 years ago to the day (11/11/2008) as an easy (and free) way to find and network with other veteran owned businesses.

VetBiz.gov is also a place you need to visit. It's the VA's site for Vet Biz related information including details on getting certified by the CVE if your business is owned by a veteran. It's great that states keep creating programs that add more contracting weight to businesses that are owned by our country's military heroes. There are many great places that help veteran owned businesses from the national level all the way down the city level. VeteranOwnedBusiness.com is a directory of nearly 5,000 businesses throughout the country owned by veterans. VOBs and SDVOSBs (service disabled veteran owned businesses) can sign up for a membership and profile with absolutely no cost. There is no cost to use it to search for a business, either. The VA also has a great site with tons of information for said businesses.
