I take it I can't actually download the Alpha yet. So is signing up for the newsletter the same as "Signing up for the Alpha" to get an Alpha key? Just want to make sure I'm good to go here.

Edit: Ok, I'm an idiot. I got another email after confirming the newsletter subscription that had the download link. One of these days I'll learn to be more patient.

Re: Watch Defying Gravity (2009) free online | Free movies online

Any chance we can get a version of Defying Gravity that can be downloaded?

Re: NMSLauncher - Multiple profiles, settings, and saved games - No Man's Sky Mods

Thanks Taiselyou! The servers are getting hammered now since they went international / world-wide.

Still, I'm able to do the things I need to do in my kingdom when needed. It only takes a few minutes so I don't see too many issues when I am in the game for that short of a period of time.

It's mostly when I travel to other kingdoms to try to initiate trade with them.

Re: We Rule. Now Available Worldwide.

I've been playing We Rule for about 2 weeks now thanks to an article about creating accounts in iTunes that are not from where you live.

It's clear that ngmoco:) opens their games up to Canada only to start with so that they can do a sort of closed beta to make sure it's ready for prime time. Unfortunately, the game wasn't quite ready yet. The We Rule servers have been down since this morning.

There are other in-game issues like farms that say they are bad when they are really ready to harvest. Memory issues with iPhone 3G's at least and occasional crashes.

They have updated the game once, but clearly there is still a need for more updates. However, the game mostly plays well.

We Rule is a great game for playing for about 10 minutes, then setting it down for a period of time so that your crops and other items can grow/accumulate/etc... This game is pretty easy to play without having to spend a dime. However, if you want to gain levels very quickly, you can buy vials of "Mojo" to complete tasks very quickly. As I said, I have been playing for about 2 weeks and have managed to get to level 15 without spending a penny. (I couldn't since I don't have an iTunes account that can spend money)

I personally love ngmoco:)'s "fremium" game model. It allows folks on a limited budget to play some amazing games that would otherwise cost them more than they might be able to afford.

GodFinger, ngmoco:)'s other new title, came out in Canada a couple of days after We Rule did, so I suspect that the rest of the world will see GodFinger arriving shortly.

Re: Apple Approves Blatant Doodle Jump Ripoff, Doodle Jumper

As soon as I saw this in AppShopper.com, I sent off an email to Lima Sky telling them about the app. Hopefully, they will get Apple to remove the app ASAP. Microsoft doesn't put full descriptions of any of their applications anymore since they believe that everyone on the planet knows what their apps do.

I don't agree with this behavior at all. There are always newcomers to a product. Yet Microsoft as well as just about every other large software house does this. Not to mention just about every software house period. Look at all the open-source software out there. Much of it assumes you know what the product is, so they don't have a page that describes it or has screen shots.

If you ask me, this is a formula for loss of sales. It takes very little effort to put at least a single paragraph describing what the product does. Veterans can simply skip over that paragraph and newcomers can read the extra paragraph and know what they are looking at.

Re: Whiten Yellow Teeth (waste your money) With This New iPhone App

Isn't this about as close to a scam application as one can get? I mean talk about an app that doesn't benefit anything at all other that the developers wallet.

Ya gotta wonder what Apple's reviewers are thinking when they approve such apps.

Re: Monday Morning App HQ

A comment on ads... Look, I understand that developing games takes a lot of time and with the AppStore, a HUGE risk. However, it's hard to say that there are "unobtrusive" ads in mobile devices. There is so little screen space on mobile devices that a "small" ad anywhere on the screen along with the game takes away too much space from the game itself. If we are talking about an ad that appears before the game does, then we are talking about time wasted before playing a 5 minute session of a casual game.

Now if the developer wants to put an ad on the same page as the game menu or start screen, that could be considered "unobtrusive". It doesn't get in the way of the actual game and the user is going to be seeing that screen each time they go in to play it. I could live with that form of "unobtrusive".

Otherwise, I would gladly pay extra for a game that doesn't have ads in it. As for the piracy issue, Apple needs to get off their duffs and fix this very large problem. Microsoft and Sony (XBox 360 and Playstation 3) have already dealt with the issue and I don't believe they have the issues with piracy that Apple is seeing on the iPhone.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing jailbreaking go away, but I know that there are many others that feel it's their right to be able to jailbreak their device. Fine. However, applications developed for the iPhone/iPod touch shouldn't be able to run on jailbroken devices unless they have been paid for and downloaded via the only legal method, through iTunes.

Look, the price of the applications have nothing to do with piracy on the iPhone/iPod touch. Even 99¢ applications are being pirated. There just isn't any possible excuse for pirating iPhone/iPod touch software. They are extremely affordable, packed with more content than anyone would expect for a $10 game (considering the time and risk spent developing them) and couldn't be easier to get installed on the iPhone/iPod touch.

If piracy doesn't stop on iPhone/iPod touch's, I can see a day when a game that would sell for $9.99 will be priced at $49.99. For no other reason than to attempt to recoup the money spent developing the software.

Re: Getting Your Drunk Ass Home – DrinkTracker Receives An Update [$25 iTunes giveaway]

Retweet of a twitter posting.

Re: 1FPS (I have never and will never purchase an app from...)

It always makes me chuckle when I read about people not willing to pay a few bucks for an application that runs on a device that cost them $200-$300 plus the 2 year contract with AT&T or $200-$400 for the iPod touch.

When all the hub-bub was going on about the Tweetie 2.0 update costing $2.99, there was a guy that was complaining that he couldn't afford it. I just don't get that logic at all.

These developers are killing themselves putting out some amazing pieces of software for next to nothing at all. Yet there are people out there that seem to think that $2.99 is too much money. Worse yet, they are willing to pirate a $0.99 app rather than pay for it.

What really cracked me up was his instistance on posting to the developers blog that he thought that charging for the upgrade was wrong and that he couldn't afford it. No one was twisting his arm to buy the upgrade. Tweetie 1.x is a fine piece of software for the iPhone/iPod touch, so I don't understand why the guy was all indignant about the upgrade anyway.

Re: Finer Things in iPhone - Starting in iPhone OS 3.1 (I think), the charging...

I have OS 3.1 and my battery icon image shows up in the center like the "old" half of the image above. Well, not as much as some, but still. When I heard about this app this morning, I just couldn't believe what I heard.

I don't know how many people Apple has "screening" the apps before they are released, and how much education they have. However, Baby Shaker is clearly an app that should never have seen the light of day. Of course, there are hundreds if not thousands of other apps that also should not be in the AppStore right now, but it appears that Apple doesn't seem to mind them being there.

As someone currently developing an app for the store myself, I see all too often applications out there that probably took the developer all of 5 minutes to write and are out there in the store attempting to sell for $1 and on rare occasions $1,000. When I see the $1000 apps, I report them to Apple right away. I don't care what their content is, the app had better be worth $1000 if they are selling it for $1000. Don't show me a single screenshot of a title screen and not have a website backing the software up. Otherwise I'm calling SCAM.

Anyway, I don't know if it was your site or someone close to your site that first brought this app to Apple's attention, but good for you for doing so, who ever did it! As fans of Apple and the iPhone/iPod touch, we need to make sure that Apple does the right thing with situations like these.

Re: Quantum of Solace's writing, editing, and cinematography are spectacular

I have to say that I too was very impressed with both Quantum and Casino Royal. I sure didn't mean to make it sound like your choice of iClip made you a bad person or anything like that.

I purchased iClip way back and had it running for quite sometime after I purchased it. I just found that I never used it due to the UI issues.

I just found iClip's UI to be way over the top for what it did and because of that, it was very hard to determine what was in each of the clipping. Savvy Clipboard is very straightforward in it's presentation. I now use it quite frequently, even when programming.

One bad think I have noticed about the clipboard in general when using TextExpander, since TextExpander uses the clipboard to do it's thing, I find that the multiple clipboard entries in Savvy Clipboard are duplicated due to use of TextExpander. It almost makes using multiple clipboard programs useless. That's really a shame. I wonder if it would be prudent to suggest a change to TextExpander so that it doesn't continue to have this side effect? Hmm...

Re: TMUP 120:There will be Macs

Victor, I can't believe that you think that iClip is the best "multiple" clipboard program for the Mac. I found that program to be way to complicated for me to use and I'm a programmer and very tech savvy user. Oh sure, I could use it, but I would never suggest a program like iClip to my parents who are by no means tech savvy.

I just found and purchased the program "Savvy Clipboard" by BlitzClick Software (http://blitzclicksoft.com/).
