Nothing wrong with foreign investments either. In some markets, it is cheaper to invest in a foreign company you wish to operate in than it is to put your investments locally and then try to ship your product/service overseas. The US, just like many other large companies, have been doing this for ages. This is nothing new and not really a big issue (unless you are an isolationist).

Re: 4 Pro-Gun Arguments We're Sick of Hearing

In honor of the writer's snarky comments, I would like to remind Amanda that the First Amendment was written in a time of parchment and quills by candle/lamp light. If for some reason Peeple takes off, you'll have high(er) ratings than many of your peers if you don't register with the site. And to preserve it, the South went to war."

You have your two sentences backwards. Slavery was still legal in the US (both as a whole and as the Union) until December 1865. That was eight months after the Civil War officially ended. And if you want to assume that the Emancipation Proclamation was enforceable, then slavery was legal in the Union/Union-held territories for 35 months longer than the South (the Emancipation Proclamation was made in January 1863).

That said, "one" of the reasons the Southern States rebelled was to protect the Constitutionally-recognized practice of slavery. When the Constitution was being drafted, the Northern States did not want slaves to be counted as a part of the population (some delegates referred to them as "property") while the South did want the slaves included in the population figures. Naturally, this was over representation in the House, and the Northern States wanted to skew the census figures in their favor for increased influence in Congress. Likewise, the Southern States wanted full-accounting of the salves to increase their representation in the House. This led to the 3/5ths compromise. Additionally, the Constitution laid the groundwork to end the slave trade in the US by 1808, but it did not call for ending slavery itself. It wasn't until the 13th Amendment in December of 1865 that the Constitution was changed to make slavery illegal.

Re: The Verdict Is Already In; By Almost Any Measure, Obamacare Is a Failure

I'm not disagreeing with your overall point, John, but your initial post was a personal attack (of sorts) to which tam1960 was using to mock you. When debating, you need to establish your argument with some sort of fact that not just you but those whom you are debating with can reference. For example, in my response to you, I directly quoted your two posts noting where you made accusations without any supporting information. Please go back and revisit your initial posts and my response to see where your argument was deemed to be baseless and rephrase it and add in the missing information to give your point a foundation to start from.

Re: Tom Coburn rankles Harry Reid in farewell Senate disputes

Unfortunately, that doesn't make your argument. Based upon the criteria set forth at the start of the article, Stabler would match the description of Manning; a few good years (statistically) shadowed by many average years (a symptom of team issues and not necessarily caused by the QB). Stabler has 5 seasons with a QB rating of 80+ (Manning has 6 including this current season) with 194 TDs and 222 INTs (Manning has 255 TDs and 184 INTs) 184 starts (Manning has 167 starts).

Re: 5 Worst NFL Quarterbacks With Super Bowl Rings

Eli Manning has an "honorable mention" while Ken Stabler, Doug Williams, and Joe Theismann aren't even on the list? He's been playing behind a revolving door of injured and rookie players most of the season and last, resulting in a record number of sacks on him. 39 sacks last season and 26 sacks this season (not to include all of the hits he's taken after releasing the ball) makes all but the top 1% of QB's gun-shy. Last season, that resulted in him throwing in a career-high 27 interceptions. This year, he's kept the ball or thrown safe throws that don't lead to a first down.

Re: RAW COURAGE: Papa John’s Female Manager Defends Store From Looters With Bare Hands (Video)

The lady in the background saying "Oh my God, you going to put your life in danger for a Papa Johns" highlights one of the things that is wrong with society. The manager is doing what everyone else should have been doing at that moment; standing up to two thugs that are out only to destroy. Don't just stand there and question why someone is taking a stand against criminal activity. The guys trying to break into the restaurant aren't "protesting" or "honoring Brown's life". They are vandals, pure and simple. The bystander could learn a lesson or two from the manager, especially if the bystander calls in an order for pizza the next day.

Re: A special job for Elizabeth Warren?

Vote in Manchin.
