It takes farming, transportation, bakers time/energy and other resources to get that bagel made and people just throw half of it away. Cut your bagel in half and save the rest for later, don't throw out perfectly good food. These bakers should say they wont do special orders for scooping and instead sell them a half bagel.

Re: Cheers and jeers: Hiring and firing at World Vision | Editorial - Federal Way Mirror

Cheers to an organization that allows discrimination towards people working for a better world? And jeers to people who feel like they shouldn't have to lose their jobs just because they are different? The fact that someone would have to hide their race, religion, sexuality, or ethinic background to get a job speaks badly about the company or non-profit; it does not speak badly about the individual who wants to have a job that helps other people.

Re: Tapping Federal Way's gay potential | Tyler Young - Federal Way Mirror

The study was focused on the population of the United States. I am using that as a disclaimer to make it clear that not all people fit into this lifestyle. Although there are more gays and lesbians in this economic range, it does not mean all are, and I made that very clear.

Re: Tapping Federal Way's gay potential | Tyler Young - Federal Way Mirror

"Linguistic reclamation is the appropriation of a pejorative epithet by its target, to turn an insult into a positive term and deny others the ability to define it." - Godrej, Farah. Author of 'Spaces for Counter-Narratives: The Phenomenology of Reclamation.'

I would consider queer to be a reclaimed word, often used by GLBT youth. It has been used in TV show titles such as "Queer as Folk" and "Queer Eye For the Straight Guy." It is also used for a gay punk music genre "Queercore." I understand it may still seem like a negative word to older gays and lesbians, but it has been accepted by youth in the community. This is my word of choice as an umbrella term for GLBT individuals or groups.

Re: Gay revolution in Federal Way | Guest column - Federal Way Mirror

I am not one of "the gays", I'm an individual. And I am not down on people for having different views from me. I recently got a l letter printed about me where I was insulted and accused of being perverse. This was my reply: http://www.pnwlocalnews.com...

If that isn't proof that I am not judgemental or resentful, then I don't know what could convince you. I actually do have friends that are against gay marriage. I feel they are wrong and that it's okay for me to be open about that. And I was simply telling missbush that I thought she had misinterpretated my article. I feel that is fair.

Re: I'm gay and want to shake your hand | Federal Way letters - Federal Way Mirror

gayinfederalway.blogspot.com

Re: Perspectives on homophobia | Federal Way letters - Federal Way Mirror

I'm not asking for extra money to be spent on the gay community in Federal Way. I simply would like a small amount of the money already planned on being spent towards diversity efforts in Federal Way to go towards gay diversity. We have money planned on going towards racial diversity, ethnic diversity, gender diversity, etc. Why not sexual orientation diversity? I feel that's fair.

Re: Pandering to the gay lifestyle | Federal Way letters - Federal Way Mirror

T.J., I hope you have read the letter I wrote in response to you. I'm only asking that a small amount of the money already planned on being spent for diversity funding and community building go towards causes that help gays and lesbians. So the city wont pay extra money - it will simply divide the amount more fairly it already plans to spend on diversity and community building.

This funding could include awareness about AIDS/HIV (something that benefits non-gay members of our city too) or paying for teacher workshops that help teachers deal with gay and lesbian issues (such as bullying).

And thanks everyone for supporting an inclusive Federal Way.

Re: Gay revolution in Federal Way | Guest column - Federal Way Mirror

Missbush, I pay for all the groups expenses and volunteer for free. I am not asking for taxpayers to pay for this group. I would never ask the city to pay for a private group.

When I mentioned gay people having equal funding I said that since gay people are paying taxes some of the money the local government is already putting into diversity and community building should also go to gays. This funding could include awareness about AIDS/HIV (something that benefits non-gay members of our city too) or paying for teacher workshops that help teachers deal with gay and lesbian issues (such as bullying).

That seems reasonable to me. I'm a gay American who pays taxes, and should be treated equally by the Federal Way government.

Re: Council votes 6-1 to oppose elected mayor initiative - Federal Way Mirror

I think the real reason most council members don't want an elected mayor is because they don't like the idea of having someone above them with more power. There is no excuse for this. Just because crime is down it doesn't mean that it's at an acceptable level. We have more crime than the national average and we should care about that. Just because the other surrounding areas of Washington are equally dangerous doesn't mean that it's okay. Our state and city have failed to deal with crime.

Re: Editorial smells like Democrats | Federal Way letter to the editor - Federal Way Mirror

I can't believe you think that the people of Federal Way would take that seriously.
