The most I did at removing old kernel entries were through Synaptic Package Manager and then Ubuntu-Tweak. This makes the process a lot easier to understand. Though I hope they'd make something like this for BURG since (no offense) the current BURG UI isn't as sleek as this one.

Re: Do launcher says “I ain’t dead”, sees first new release in a year

Updates are always welcomed. Though I like the fact that Natty seems to sport a universal menu. Would love to see this turns out in the coming months.

And as much as I don't want to admit it, the dock on the side just isn't appealing to me. Would prefer to have it at the bottom too as Mamo said.

Re: Remove unused entries from the Ubuntu Messaging Menu

I made the mistake of uninstalling everything Evolution related and unfortunately removed ubuntu-desktop in the process. Well said ser. LOL

On Topic:

Yes they are irritating. And on top of that, they even have the gall to send a lawsuit to a blogger who didn't appreciate their marketing campaign. (Sorry I don't have a link on that blog but I'm sure you've already read that article.)

I personally haven't tried the game nor was I interested to click the ad. But from how prominent and lewd their banners are, I'd rather stay away from them. ^^

Re: And This Is The Guild Wars 2 Trailer...

Yup. But you just can't argue with the assumption that some male gamers actually fit the profile of pedophiles. Heck, gamers are sometimes even dubbed as geeks or virgins. Hence why adds such as those work for some publishers / developers. LOL

The virtual environment just has that allure to such individuals and at the same time proves as an escape goat to be what you can't be in real life. So we can assume that uptight people can be quite uninhibited in virtual environments.

I'm not saying I'd stay away from games like those. But when boredom strikes you'll never know what game you'd be trying or what other weird interweb content you'll be taking your enjoyment from. LOL

Re: Piloting: Good or Bad?

Before I give my take, let's define terms for convenience.

Toon, Avatar, Character - The persona of an individual in any virtual environment, game, etc
Bot - An application that automates a process, more commonly referred to as programs
Botting - The process there of using the application
Flesh Bot - Any individual who acts as a substitute of an account owner, commonly known as "pilots", although the term pilot confuses with other vocabulary
Flesh Botting - The process there of assigning a flesh bot

My take, this probably will give a general idea on how I look at online gaming as an industry.

First off, any individual is entitled to freely sign up or apply to any existing MMO. Bet it free or subscription based. Regardless if its the retail server/service or a hoax (Illegal/Private Server or the like). However, they are required to confirm and recognize a certain agreement known as an EULA.

The topic of flesh botting is more concerned on retail servers since hoax servers don't really implement strict policies.

Being a gamer myself, time is always a factor not just for playing games but also for any activity I indulge in. For instance, in a game. If I do not have time to play a game, I won't. The same goes for resource. If money is an issue or a requirement for a game, I may or may not continue to play it.

However, it is difficult for me to simply allow anyone to use an account that I own in any virtual environment. Regardless if I fully trust that individual or not. And mainly because I fully understand the Terms of Services and the EULA that I have agreed to upon accessing any.

I guess its just a personal and constitutional choice. The same goes regarding the issue.

If one doesn't have the luxury to spend time playing a game, then he/she shouldn't gripe about it. If someone else has another means to reach a goal, let's say bot or flesh bot, that is their choice and they have already dismissed any other option. Otherwise, they wouldn't have botted or flesh botted in the first place.

Although I personally can't call that responsible gaming because like what Clara said, that's just how it goes in virtual environments. And its not any different with real life. Martyrs in this case would probably finish last.

Its just that some people are either too well off to afford having flesh bots to give them an advantage to a game they've been pining on, or they just don't have a concept of self development. Probably both. Since they've had it easy to begin with. No offense to anyone affected, but I just don't see any other reason for resorting to botting or flesh botting myself.

I'm guilty of actually trying to bot one of my characters in RO. It only got as far as 2 or 3 levels, afterwards I stopped playing.

Attachment may be another issue. The more a player is attached to playing a game, the more that player becomes desperate for power, fame, riches and everything that goes with it. Hence resorting to what ever means they can to get their goal.

Ending this, I'd say flesh botting isn't really an issue. Its a matter of being content with what you can accomplish and what you can get be it in a game or in real life. If you think you have it good, someone else probably has it better. And if you don't happen to get what you desire or want, its just not supposed to happen.

Cheers! =]

Re: Cussing in MMORPGs

Well the fact that the game has been categorized as "Mature" should be enough reason to expect the presence of explicit language within the game.

The issue would be how far or how young of an audience does the game reach? Such as age groups or which sector of the community does it reach? Another would be the level of comprehension of the audience.

Generally, any form of entertainment categorized as mature should not be left within children's reach.

For age groups, unfortunately, we do not have any form of secure ID system similar to other countries whereas if a child tries to sign up for a game categorized as "Mature", the child will have to ask for parental consent and have their parents sign up for the service in their behalf. And from then, it would be the parents' responsibility to guide their children regarding the content of what they had signed up for.

For the community sector, obviously the target market is the general public. But which sectors of the community would definitely patronize the game? Probably more from the middle to the upper class sector. Specifically those who have unlimited access to the internet or have unlimited resources to spend on the product.

And finally for the level of comprehension of the audience, what kind of mentality or understanding do people who access these services have? This probably is the most important factor where values of individuals are introduced into the topic. Although, I have twisted values so I'm not one to expound on the subject. LOL! But I generally would say it will depend on how open or restricted one's point of view is regarding the topic.

And yep, heaven forbid if this reaches the attention of our Government. However, wouldn't it be a good thing if we did have that certain ID system?

Re: Cussing in MMORPGs

Apparently, the ESRB ratings for locally published online games aren't as strictly implemented compared to other countries. And not just the Online Games, even the PC and Console game dealers and distributors here don't follow ESRB protocols in selling games. Not to mention piracy. (Too much segway I know. LOL)

With regards to the topic, publishing a game or content locally should go through streneous procedures of game testing and script reviewing. The latter should have taken care of filtering language and terminologies that may not be suitable to certain levels of audience. I'm not saying the publishers neglect reviewing NPC scripts or quest logs, but the process probably is too tedious that some scripts unintentionally get missed.

However, it doesn't fall on just the publisher's discretion to properly review the games they will be locally releasing and apply necessary procedures to make the game appropriate to be released to the general public. The developers themselves should understand that having their games locally published to countries or regions beyond their reach do not have the same governing laws to where they originally publish their games.

If only ESRB ratings are strictly implemented here, then maybe incidents such as these would be avoided. And at the same time, subscribers or players themselves should be fully aware of what genre of game they will be signing up for.
