Once the new movement takes the high ground it is immediately forced to take the defensive position. As a matter of fact when it spends more time defending it's position than it does advancing the cause of Christ it immediately sends a cry out like a wounded animal. Unfortunately the next ones to come along will smell blood and attack. This seems to be the cycle. How to break it? I really can't speak for others but I don't think establishing a new movement, label, whatever is the way to go. I and many others have no ambition to take the high ground away from anyone. We have no agenda, don't have books to sell or conferences to attend. We simply want to encourage all followers of Christ to live out His words on a daily basis in their own communities in the manner they feel Father is leading them. Castle towers are great for looking at the view, but servants choose the low ground. Jhimm please don't think we're walking away wanting to create a schism. Truth is we've never been a part of any "movement" and don't care to start another one. Carry on my friend and continue to serve God in the way He has called you. Remember too that what you view as a schism might actually be the body parts functioning in their own unique way. It just takes time for us to get coordinated with one another. It will definitely not be considered cool or trendy but it is necessary. Like you I feel that Emergent gave me birth but has recently gone in a direction I cannot go. So while I appreciate the discussion which has been generated it is time to move on and live out my life in Christ in the real world apart from the conference activist oriented environment that has arisen. The word for me has lost it's meaning and may be stimulating discussion in the blogosphere but doesnt help meet the needs of the people of the land among who I live. Labels have never fed the hungry or healed the brokenhearted, so I'll leave the activism to the Whatevermergents. I have people to live amongst and minister Jesus with.
