No idea on darren - not involved in travel approval and the only reason for him to use a limo would be speech for Phil - as has been the arrangement for at least 25 years for leaders of opp.

My point is Phils spending ranked a bit lower than I thought it would but just make it clear i am not attacking him for not working hard enough - he must be better at cost saving than most Ministers.

Phil is sitting at the mid point of Cabinet spending. About or even slightly lower than what one would expect. Opp leader has more time and opportunity to move around country - so is much more likely to accept invites than Ministers.

Thanks Whale - this is a very real issue - most pregnancies are neither planned nor timed. I suggest people look at the views of Prof Dr Gluckman (Keys science tsar) who has real medical knowledge in this very area. Look at the cost to the taxpayer of not proceeding. Look at the human cost of what John Key has decided. As my post says sometimes leaders have to weigh evidence and lead even if it is a bit unpopular. Key hasn't done that. And whatever you say babies will die as a result of his decision.

Lots. In case you don't know Auckland has some of the leading schools, two universities that both do world leading education research, business leaders and lots of others really keen to to continue to talk with me.

They also appear to have had a disproportionate share of the programmes for gifted kids, and the programmes for sharing the skills of leading schools both of which suffered 100% cuts in the budget.

One advantage of being a Wellington MP is that I get more local time than most, I can do meetings coming and going from Parliament most days and it only takes ten minutes so I can do lunch and dinner appointments in the Hutt. My profile and availability was probably one of the reasons the number of people who voted for me in 2008 was higher than in 2005,

A disadvantage of South Wainuiomata is that the mobile broadband coverage from vodafone is pretty hopeless.

Was very very careful because i knew that I have some profile. Never came to Auckland without parliamentary business. Used volunteers and colleagues cars extensively, got dropped in town for appointments by volunteers. Cost taxpayers less than doing the same appointments would normally. As Whale's map shows Mt Albert esp HQ in Sandringham is closer to the airport than central city where most appointments were. And no i didn't go to AUT in a chopper.

There is one Labour party staffer who does the admin for Red Alert. The MPs who contribute do most of the moderating and as you can tell by the fact that both Whale & Kate being regular contributors no special attention to VRWC. Two one week bans so far.

I conceded when I lost to John thomas in Ham west 1990, We stayed a long time in vain waiting for Paul Quin to concede in person last year. Joy Quigley, Rosemary Thomas and a young Nat whose name I can no longer remember all came to my headquarters on election nights in hutt south to concede.
