I’ve taken hundreds of passport photos. The photographer can only control how the customer stands and looks at the camera and their facial expression. Lighting is the same for everyone and per passport standards. I’ve told them to fold down their turtlenecks, wear (the photo store’s) business jacket to define neck and shoulder shape or cover skin, take off shiny head area jewelry or coverings (unless it’s for religious reasons), and would go as far giving them a tissue to blot oil to reduce reflection and hot areas/highlights on their skin. 99% of the time I don’t know these people and I don’t know how they look on a daily basis. No passport photographer I know have told a person “that’s too much makeup on you”. There are standards and photographers have to adhere to them. Just because a person has make up on doesn’t make it a “glamour” passport photo.

Re: How Changes in Barometric Pressure Affect the Human Body

I’m one of those who get affected by changes with atmospheric pressure. I like getting up early and starting my day with routine. But when the weather pattern changes from sunny to gray/rainy (or vice versa) I feel slightly achey all over and can’t get up from bed to save my life, and would feel lethargic the whole day. I’ve moved and lived in different cities and locations in North America and currently live in the east coast/maritimes in Canada (and unfortunately a bit more sedentary lifestyle) so I’ve been able to observe and compare its effect on me. I have SAD and prefer sunnier climates. One more thing, I’m beginning to notice it also affects my eye pressure and vision, and every 4-6 months or so I get redness (sometimes on one corner of one eye only) and feel pressure in my eyeballs or where the redness is, sometimes on the left, and sometimes on the right. It’s unexplainable and every time I get checked my eye doctor says my eye pressure and vision is normal - all docs in the US and Canada both in the West and East coast, but of course they are checking it when it’s not happening. Anyway, I’m wondering if there are other people out there experiencing the same and as I’ve said, this needs a lot more study.

Re: This hilarious “quarantimelapse” is a proof that you don’t need to break isolation to stay creative

What’s “Hilarious” about that? I constantly use it on my iPhone (saves over the original, which btw is reversible, so no duplicate files and having to go back and delete versions to save space). Also I have the same problem with thumbnails when accessing my files and folders on my I-device, especially on the go. After some research and trials and regrets I went with Idrive *online* backup (yes another “i” device/service). I like that I can access it anywhere thru their app - solid so far - and yes it displays thumbnails fast. Jpgs to jpegs to PDFs to tiffs to mov/mpg - but for the love of god I can’t find a camera raw file rt now as I type under the sheets at 5 in the am so you’ll have to look into it. Hope this helps. Attaching screenshots of thumbnail and list mode from the app.

Re: Photographer behind the viral royal wedding photo reveals how it was taken

@MzUnGu, but you’re on point with what you said, considering the circumstances - while everyone’s photos might literally all look the same from the same angle - this person got something that no one else was able to: a different perspective.

Re: Photographer behind the viral royal wedding photo reveals how it was taken

How would it be better?

Re: Why I am still using Flickr and struggling to leave it

The straw that broke the camels back for me was the horrible, horrible app. I can’t even figure out how to edit my own captions! (That’s just ONE of the problems) Also they cut off the RSS feed which I was using a lot. Suddenly photos weren’t loading on my own website (which still drives traffic back to Flickr anyway).

Re: Why I am still using Flickr and struggling to leave it

I think - I don’t know if it’s still true - with Flickr YOU own the photos. Including the fact that Ansel used film which has generally a broader range than digital. He also used large format sheet film right? So unlike today's technology (of almost unlimited space and white balance settings electronically adjusted) Ansel was limited. The post is about using bracketing, to achieve the best photo with focus, white balance, and exposure, not about knowing how to meter. Tell me that mastering how to meter will get you the sharpest photo. THAT, sir, is nonsense.

Re: How to Use Bracketing to get Your Best Shot – 3 Different Methods

Ansel Adams also didn't have a digital camera. This post is about getting the right shot using different methods, including combining exposures with a dynamic range. I swear anyone will quote Ansel just to get validation.

Re: Why Vinyl Matters

When I was very young I had a 45 player in my room, it was the family's but I guess my brothers and I took it as one of the toys. I grew up listening to Voltes V, Mazinger Z and soundtracks from many cartoons and popular tv shows (even Mary Poppins). Even tho these are kids songs (I'll admit I also played The Carpenters there), I understand the "warmth" that you mentioned with the quality of sound you get when you play a record. It represents a special time in my life too, not just back when music albums were enjoyable by touch (and not playable BY one, get it?) but also of simpler times as a young boy learning to appreciate different types of music.

Re: sivart nesnahoj, here’s my owwie that needed 3 stitches. damn...

Awwwwww... sowwy.

Re: gazonks • cockfiend:
