ESPN only had massive household "viewership" through early brilliance in negotiating/marketing themselves to cable operators who then packaged the channel to every household and forced everyone to pay for it. They counted on this installed base to continually extract more and more money, including "threats" of turning it off to enrage customers to gain leverage during negotiations.

My guess is 80% of the "households" who have ESPN never watch it or watch it so infrequently that it would not be missed if gone. Given the option of paying $10-15 per month for ESPN or doing without, most would likely do without.

The main problem is there is not any easy solution. If you were to affect actual reform, GDP in the United States would drop at least 10% or more. Healthcare has grown to be such a large percentage of GDP because of all of the abuses that go on, any actual reform which solves that will necessarily cause hundreds of thousands of job losses and a massive drop in GDP until a rebalancing occurs

Why not use the money from the stupid BrownStreak bullet train to repair the dam?

I am certain that once the crisis is over they will massively raise taxes and water rates to pay for a huge problem that could have been mitigated a long time ago and for much less cost.

If you notice - the "undocumented" sympathizers ALWAYS go for the "breadwinner and children" excuse about why we cannot do anything.

Do we use this excuse when an American father (or mother) robs a bank, or embezzles money, or is a tax evader or is a felony drunk driver etc and is caught and is thrown in prison for 5-10 years? What about their "children"?? What about the "breadwinner" argument then?

Is not being in prison and absent from their lives virtually identical to being deported and absent from the childrens' lives?

Why do they not use this "breadwinner and children" argument when an illegal alien is sent to prison for multiple years for rape, assault, etc? Why are the "children" only an issue when it comes to deportation? At least when they are deported they are NOT jailed and are able to take care of their family in their OWN country ...

Not to mention once they are in open defiance of the enforcement of federal law, any future crimes against citizens committed by one of the harbored illegal aliens opens the city up to massive civil lawsuits. I would further guess that any and all liability insurance the cities or entities within might have will also be cancelled - no insurance company is going to knowingly cover payouts for illegal behavior.

You are on the right path. In the past, since the US govt was really lax about borders and deportations, crimes committed by illegals did not really make a city or its employees liable. Once the US govt changes its tone and a city states publicly and intentionally that they will not comply with US law and will hide illegal aliens - any crimes committed by the illegals opens the city up to immediate and massive liability in civil court.

Not to mention any liability insurance the cities (and its entities) might have will be cancelled - no insurance company is going to elect to pay up on behalf of city officials who are intentionally breaking federal law and creating liability for large payouts.

8.4M people live in NYC. By his own words, 500k are illegal immigrants. That is over 16% of the population. If you remove 16% of the population, does that not make police job easier as there is 16% less people to 1) commit crimes and 2) to protect from crimes?

Yes you do otherwise the next administration can easily reverse the enforcement rules etc. A wall would be much harder to deal with as it would require a repeal of law AND demolition, something that would be very hard to argue for.

Biggest issue is that there are no consequences for most things. Businesses hire illegals because its cheaper and there is very little consequence to getting caught. Additionally, there is next to no consequence to illegals using stolen ss numbers etc - not even deportation.

Fines do not really work - it gets passed on to customers and the public. Put people in jail for 6 mos and it will start to make a difference.
