Systematic racism is much larger than just the city of Portland and the liberal-minded people who are voted into office. The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander does a wonderful job of exposing and connecting slavery, Jim Crow laws, mandatory minimums, the War on Drugs, etc. to the systematic oppression of black and brown folks. I'd definitely recommend reading it. Also, I think the author is going to do a guest lecture at Reed at some point this year.

Oh my god, Carol Vincent still teaches at EDMES?! That woman has to have been there for over 20 years at least!

I am proud to be a gay Jewish New Hampshirite! Can't believe I saw the day that gay marriage became a law in the state. Only 44 states to go before I'm truly happy though.
