Somewhat off topic (but a reminder); this next little rally will give you yet another chance to put a short on BBY. You forecasted it being a "teenager" some time back. There has been quite a bit of distribution happening from $46 to $36 in the last 5 weeks.

Coaching aside, the better team won - plain and simple. They're the defending NBA champs.

Kerr is a nice guy and he has rings, but that doesn't automatically make him a good GM. Look what Jordan has done in Charlotte. The Shaq trade was desperation; no way he could make it up and down the court at their pace and his body won't allow him to play meaningful minutes any more. The Suns could have got the same kind of production from a Joe Smith or Kurt Thomas type player.

Kerr is just starting as a GM so the jury is still out, but this first trade of his wasn't very good.

There will certainly be coaches switching teams this off season; but the coach didn't lose this series for the Suns. They were simply outclassed.

BBY as the leading U.S. retailer of all the things people buy that they don't really need to survive = is a proxy on the consumer. BBY is essentially a call option on the U.S. consumer.

You've stated that you're bearish on that stock, saying it will become a teenager, which if it fell to $19 , would be a 68% drop from its all-time highs. Now think about what will have to happen for BBY to fall that far. There will have to be a tremendous displacement of American workers as they won't be able to buy all the latest gadgets = a terrible economy.

Your previous premise of a weakening economy WAS correct when you were bearish/doing less, etc... - and now you're saying that you're optimistic ? It can't be both, or else I'm confused. Clarify, please.

MA has shown no vol. yet and has hesitated when it has tried to move higher = there's no conviction = I'd steer clear for now.

The homebuilders did not provide a good setup - it was simply a combination of short covering and an oversold bounce. More basing and consolidation needs to occur before this sector will produce better entries.

Checkout the rails like CSX, BNI, NSC - all of them at or approaching ALL-TIME highs. Somebody has to transport all that coal.

Check out out the new coal ETF, KOL. Lots of winners in there including Ritholtz's mention of ACI; also FDG and BUCY.

He SHOULD get his balls busted; by many accounts he did some very crooked stuff. He settled without admitting guilt or innocence. People who are innocent don't settle like that and agree to get banned from the securities industry for life.

What he's doing now is very closely tied to the securities industry, IMO. He's back commenting on companies and giving his opinions, while making money off those opinions. I don't see how it's that much different than what he was doing a few years back.

Short term we may have a tradeable bottom, but with this action from the Fed over the weekend, how can anyone feel confident about holding anything related to the financial overnight ?

How in the world do the people who have worked at Bear Stearns for years and years and who own large amounts of BSC shares in their retirement accounts come back from this kind of fiasco ?

The Fed (the private group of world banks) got together and decided that Bear had to fold because they were too highly leveraged and couldn't meet their obligations. $2 a share ? Why not 50 cents ? What relevance is $2 ?

How many other outfits are in the same predicament ? Lehman ? Bank of America ? Wachovia ? Where does this all end ? Are we now going to come clean and reveal all the dirty laundry ? Is the Fed going to start revealing M3 again ? I don't think so.

There are more "Spitzers" out there in the financial sector trying to hide and put on a good face and just hoping that they don't get uncovered than what we know. This is a horror story getting worse by the day.

The unwinding and unraveling of the incredible leverage using derivatives and other complex instruments by financial institutions to boost revenue will only bring further pain. As my mother always told me, "be sure your sins will find you out."

Temporary trading bottom, maaaybeee.... Intermediate to longer term, there's likely a LOT more on the downside.

The 1,2,6,8 comes in a lot. You can box that for a quiniela but it'll cost you $24. The cheaper play is to key one of those numbers with the other three.

Haven't been to Miami yet. I know it's condo city down there. Glad to know that you're seeing the state of the RE market in FL. It isn't pretty.

Andy, totally disagree. Hillary is a polarizing force, justifiably or not. Many people are turned off by the notion of 24 years of presidential rule tossed back and forth between the Bush's and Clinton's.

Ha ! Obama is a more skilled politician than most give him credit. As Andy said, he never really says anything but says everything well. That is, he'll talk about ideas and concepts in a very general way without getting overly specific. That's a smart politician.

The only way the Dems lose the presidential election is if Hillary is the nominee. Dem leadership realized as much early on and have backed Obama. McCain's dry rhetoric will look stiff and cold compared to the energetic and hopeful Obama in the presidential debates.

Obama vs. McCain = minimum 10% margin of win for Obama

Clinton vs. McCain = dead heat, with McCain winning by a small margin

What's amazing to me is that Spitz was able to get his wife to stand up there at the podium beside him. What did she do to deserve standing there ? She should have made him go up there and take it himself. I feel badly for her and the kids.

At some point you need to fill us in on your belief in Karma - what exactly do you believe in and how it all works. It could make for some interesting commentary and discourse.

As far as Spitzer, he got caught with his pants down. Any aspirations he had for a future run at the presidency are out the door. I heard Dershowitz on CNN defending Spitzer saying that this is entirely "an American issue" - as in, prostitution is not illegal in Europe so this is no big deal. Give me a break Alan, just save it. He got caught breaking the very rules he enforced and prosecuted.
