I have a code for Detroit, and know you have to agree to an NDA to receive one. If you've broken NDA (which if you've received a code, you have), your PR aren't going to send you codes anymore. Embargoes exist for fairness across outlets, as well as of course for publisher benefit.

You're not 'free from the influence of publishers' if you've receive a free code and not had to pay for the game, frankly. Every outlet has to deal with that innate bias.
