We do not OWE them ANYthing. We do want to drive them out. They are NOT wanted here, not with an illegal status. They choose to work in this country in the conditions because they have come here ILLEGALLY and to stay they do whatever they can. Not our fault. If they would follow our laws and come legally then they wouldn't have to hide and work in bad conditions and could pay taxes and receive the same citizens receive. But if you don't do that, than well you get what you get and don't throw a fit.

Re: TX GOP platform: Re-criminalize sodomy, make gay marriage a felony

As a Texan I'm bit embarrassed by some of these proposed legislation. The platform on sodomy and the LGBT community is just out of order. I oppose any such laws against people..

But I do agree with the following:

restrict citizenship to children born in the United States whose parents are citizens (this is a huge problem in Texas and it is depleting our resources and jobs, and it's unfair to American's and their offspring. If I'm born in Rome to two American parents that makes me American NOT Roman.
impose a jail sentence on any illegal immigrant in the state; (illegal is illegal, no matter the circumstances)
shut down all day-labor centers; (because it encourages what we don't want nor need)
cut off all bilingual education after a student's fourth year in a U.S. public school (as a teacher, I hate the segregation that Hispanic students have from other students, they get to be in a class that engulfs them in their culture and in their language ONLY, and other students are excluded. It's a safe haven for them yet our children already receive sub-par education. When in Rome do as the Romans, and this also excludes Americans (English speakers) from jobs)

Re: Obama Insists On Performance Standards For Teachers - Politics - The Atlantic

As a teacher I find this very insulting. Insulting because it's an flawed system. There are some aspects of education that cannot be controlled. As stated in the article, money, and demographics do make a difference on student performance. In one district alone, it can clearly be seen that schools in particular neighborhoods are in better shape, cosmetically as well as academically than those in low income neighborhoods. When I subbed in this particular district (in Houston) I was always astonished by the difference in one middle school compared to the next. To hurt teachers like that, especially those that make all the effort even without too many results is insulting.

Re: How Long Does it Take to Upgrade to iOS4

I started the update about fifteen minutes ago but when I saw that while it was doing "backup" that it wasn't even inching along I went ahead and canceled the update. It's like something that we cannot get past.

Only when we are able to stop blaming everybody else besides ourselves will we be able to move forward. Before we get to pointing fingers and ALWAYS complaining, we need to look at ourselves the individuals and see what our contributions are. Contributions come in the forms our pounds, access, availability and time and not just monetary form.

Re: hunsonisgroovy, Submit

left email. thanks!

Re: How to Handle Hecklers in Church

WOW.

Get the HELL out of "his" church. Well basic scripture would tell you the church belongs to the Lord. That's first and foremost. And what he said and how he's presenting himself is NOT Christ like. He's so far from the Bible, he wouldn't know what true Scripture said and meant if it hit him in the face.

Re: Date Rape: Does No Really Mean No?

I love your expressive writing style. Your first half of the article really makes sense and proves a lot of how people view rape and sexual relationships, especially between unmarried couples. It's a sad fate of what happened to your aunt, God rest her soul. But it's the harsh reality of what many women are faced with daily.

The second half about the woman who cries rape and uses it at leverage, or the woman who dangles no in front of potential suitors is accurate as well. But men must not let their guards down around these types of women as well. It's all a balancing act between the genders when it comes to healthy sexual relationships.

Great article. Too often the topic of rape isn't discussed in our communities.

Re: To Sag Or Not To Sag?

Your first paragraph sums up my sentiments exactly. This shouldn't even be dialogue. I teach 8th graders at an inner city charter school in Houston, and I do spend some of my time encouraging our young men to pull up their pants, please believe it's not the most important thing of the day. The efforts of the "pastor" may come off as being helpful and inspiring but getting to the nitty gritty it really won't change anything. We are attacking a fad. One that has stayed around longer than I'm sure we've all wanted, but nonetheless we are using all our arsenal on a fad.

Not on positive reinforcement or combating youth violence early on. We need to reach our children in different ways and way before they reach the age of choosing to "sag". It all seems misguided when we begin to harp on the fashion of today's youth in hopes that we redirect them totally.

Are we attacking the "goth" fashion? Or the emo style? No because this fad is predominantly of the white youth, and they have in tact parents and a supportive community to guide them during their "experimenting" years. We tackle some of the most useless issues as a community, and then wonder why we always lose focus. Everyone's so busy looking at everyone's butt.

Re: Pickens to McCain on Whites Becoming A Minority

I don't think he necessarily meant "worrying" in that sense. It actually was a terrible attempt at a joke about how old they are and how they won't be around because of their age. Ha.
