How she and Palin keep being the media-darlings is beyond me! They are both as dumb as boxes of rocks and that doesn't seem to matter to very many people. Show those legs and strut the pageant walk and all the old white men start drooling.

Re: Sarah Palin's Alaska

I'd like to put it on my Facebook page also, but am new to it, and quite deficient in some of this modern technology. Hubby, myself and our two daughters first volunteered at Fort Lewis WA
in 1984 and have been involved ever since, and one grandson has also become involved. One of our daughters has now worked for over 20 years with special needs children and adults at the Army hospital near to us. Each year, it becomes a bigger struggle to find enough volunteers and if only people realized the rewards! To see the smiles and happiness of the participants and their excitement at receiving ribbons and other rewards - nothing like it!

Another good movie to watch is "My Left Foot" starring Daniel Day Lewis. A real tear-jerker, makes one frustrated at the cruelty of some people, but the love and devotion of his family outshines the negative. BTW - that is a TRUE story.

Re: Sarah Palin's Alaska

Actually it shows: Amaricas Congress Woman and it should be: America's Congresswoman......so they left the possessive apostrophe out as well as making Congresswoman into two words. I know that in this county in KY, there are two ways that new construction (even mobile homes) are identified. House/address numbers are now assigned by the Planning Commission, instead of the USPS, who used o assign them. The Planning Commission then notifies a whole lot of people/organizations of any new folks, which includes the Tax Assessment office, the volunteer fire departments (for rural addresse), Health Dept. who oversees water and septic tank installations/permits/etc., and the Electric Company. So in some areas, there are methods to be sure people are taxed.

Re: Sarah Palin leading the way on tax dodges

Another Kentuckian here (I'm almost embarassed to admit it!). Just look in the real estate advertisements for Alaska, particularly the Anchorage area. Anything comparable is going from $250,000 up to about 1/2 million.

I also wonder why there is nothing on the 2nd *cabin*. Then what about the Lake Lucille property? They've now built that 2nd mansion that greatly resembles the first one, and it has the turret added to it. Yet, there is nothing assessed on that since the beginning when it was at $5,000 - which is about what the cellar hole and foundation would cost.

And what about the supposed studio for broadcasting? Where is that located? Doesn't she need a business/commercial license of some sort to be broadcasting with a national network?

Re: Open thread

Way O/T - Mudflats has a new post up - seems Scarah thought she was giving a good put-down on Alan Grayson while speaking on his home turf in Florida. After all, she still needs some sort of protection from herself, and if she isn't careful she could step right into it with the prosecution. If the lawyer she chooses isn't licensed to practice in TN, then he would likely coordinate with one who is licensed in TN, to do the actual court representation if one is needed. And now I'll get back to Scarpetta.

Re: Dear Sarah Palin, "Do you Yahoo?"

I can understand the religious groups booking Scarah. I can also understand the bowlers, sportsment, tools, and groups of that sort who are primarily older, white men who think below the belt instead of above. What I don't get are ones that are supposed to offer something substantial for the attendees to LEARN. With more and more reporting being done on her various appearances, and the fact that they are the same old platitudes and speaking points, it just seems that some would wise up and cancel her.

So far, that list goes over two dozen. About half of them will probably not be big paydays for her, but undoubtedly will at least get travel, lodging, and other expenses. So that leaves roughly a dozen that will fork over more money to her, and if they all are in the usual $100,000 range, she's going to rake in something over a million in a few months.

You can be sure she won't be making very many charitable donations - she is no Oprah when it cames to sharing her wealth. There are caps on political donations, and she must love that as she has the perfect excuse for limiting what she parts with. Taking on a schedule like this leaves little time for being a wife and mother......but we already knew she only plays that role when it suits her.

Re: The real Sarah Palin: Fake politician, fake celebrity

I think Michael Stinson mentions in his Daily Kos piece, that he and his wife were waving around their coloring books and had taken a supply that they passed out. He also mentions that Sarah DOES NOT like them, so I'm assuming that as soon as word of their book came out, photos and dossier went into her *hit* file......just as Tawdry had the folder with Gryphen, Dennis, Shannyn, etc. for the Wasilla book signing. So, if she knew who they were, she likely was on edge, waiting for something to hit the fan.

She must be an extremely insecure person, or else she is over-estimating her worth. What is it with all these security/body guard types, and are they being paid out of her SarahPAC?

As to the SarahPAC - how often do reports have to be updated and made available to the public?

Re: Sarah Palin's newest gig: Making a "mystik" commercial for the Iditarod 2010, and promoting regimes that don't like America!

OOPS! What a bunch of stupid grifters! Demands they open 2 hours early, no photos to record what they ended up with - which will NEVER be donated, and NEVER reported for taxes. When will someone call her on the fact that she is NOT as entitled as she seems to think? Although it is headlining many websites, I wonder if any of the television media will pick up on it.
Why do they continue to ignore this sort of thing and protect her?
http://ca.eonline.com/uberb...

Re: Sarah Palin and Family Guy in a fair and balanced way

A word of caution here - because Bristol appears to be living on her own in Anchorage, does not mean that there has been trouble at Casa Palin, or that she WANTS to be on her own. It may be part of what is deemed a wise move by her attorney, at showing that she is the more stable and reliable parent with the upcoming custody hearing - i.e. providing a home on her own rather than living under her parent's roof with them supporting her, and that she has her own income to provide for the needs of the child. As well,it could show that she can tend to the child, attend school, hold a job, or whatever other things she does with her daily life........and it would show that she doesn't have to live with her parents to have the additional help with tending the child.

Bristol may be wise to her mother's manipulations and shenanigans, and even disapprove of some of her actions. But the bottom line is she is her mother's daughter and it isn't all that easy to to shut out your family and throw away 18 or 20 years overnight. Recent appearances together on television and in magazines, indicate that Bristol and Sarah seem to be getting along fairly well.

I don't think it helps to encourage Bristol to shut herself off from her mother and the grandmother of her child. If anything, badmouthing her mother directly to her via these messages, will likely result in her defending her mother and rejecting those offering hands.

Family and blood usually comes first with most people. Just regular folks who don't live in the limelight have family problems from time to time, but we don't air our differences in public and we stand up for our own against others, no matter what we think in private.

I just don't see Bristol's move as a sign of trouble between her and Sarah.

Re: Sarah Palin using her children as political props is a very old habit

I can remember my mother telling me stories of the World War II time frame. Husbands/fathers were away at war and most mothers went to work in the mills to support their families. Paragorhic (sp?) was something still available into somewhere around the 1960s, commonly used for toothaches and available OTC. That is the drug that mothers would dose their children with, go off to work at the mill, run home at lunch to feed and redose the kids, then back to the mill. Most of the mill workers lived in the mill row housing nearby. My mother mentioned that a few of the elderly women who did not work would go from one tenement to another throughout the day checking on the babies left at home. Infant/toddler mortality was quite high. To the best of my knowledge from the stories I heard, there were never any prosecutions for murder, it was a common practice to sope them up, the women were doing their parts to support the families and the war effort.........and if they lost a child through this terribly misplaced action, the authorities apparently figured they had suffered (and would for the rest of their lives) the worst punishment possible.

And no.......none of my family worked the mills or doped up any of us kids.....that I know of!

It is sad that it happened under such circumstances, but to think that one would deliberately dope a child for convenience makes me ill........but it wouldn't surprise me. I had also noticed how quiet the babies always were. I've never known a child to sleep through indefinite lengths of time with lots of noise, bright lights, etc.

As for Piper - she is a mini-Sarah already, looks to be spoiled and loves the limelight and attention. It makes me wonder if she is even able to relate to children of her own age or is she already one of those "mean girls" that Sarah apparently was in school.

Re: Open thread - Sarah Palin goes to church

I didn't listen to the sound - I avoid her screeching every chance I get.

It really is sad about Piper, being brought up at her mother's *knee* so to speak. She was forefront at so many of the book signings, on the campaign trail, just about everywhere. She was giving out her own autographs, drawing pictures and autographing them. One can already see a smug and smirky look on her at this early age. She is the only one young enough (not counting Trig) for Sarah to exert total control over, otherwise she'd have the older ones at her side all of the time.

I'm sure Bristol knows which side her bread is buttered on and what the limits to opposing her mother actually are. However, I see her going her own way as much as possible.......which is to continue to live off her mother's money and celebrity.

We hear very little about Willow except that she was reportedly living with Todd in Palmer and attending a different high school. Then she got into the B&E trouble........nothing further on that - has a trial been set yet?

Track - is he still active duty Army, living at home? Any word on what he's up to?

Re: Open thread - Sarah Palin goes to church

What a coincidence in timing! Just as I posted on the last topic and hit the refresh, your comment of the new thread came up! So I'll repost here. The MSM (other than Rachel Maddow) and Leah Burton seem to finally be waking up to these religious fanatics intruding on every aspect of our lives, and we haven't even seen it happening until a few have woken us up to Palin and her ilk. It is a lengthy article, but an excellent and worthwhile read.

http://www.alternet.org/sto...

Re: Sarah Palin's "wild ride": Child endangerment or the fraud of the century?

O/T, but deals with Sarah Palin and the growing religious movement she's been involved with. Whether it is a lack of cajones or simply a preference to avoid conflict, who knows. It just seems to be at all levels of government - we see the same thing within our city and county government in my area.

I think they prefer to pick their battles and only go into those that they have a better chance of winning. Any attacks on Sarah Palin would simply reinforce the Repubs belief that all the Dems are terrified of Sarah. There would be greater backlash for attacking a woman - particularly a *scary black man* attacking a woman!

Personally, I think it best that Obama takes the high road where Palin is concerned and just ignore her as much as possible. She always has to have the last word and the Dems don't need to get into a p*ssing contest with Palin or the Repubs.

It does seem that Alaska is terribly corrupt, but that's only because the focus of this blog is on Alaska, so that's mostly what we read about. I can guarantee you that there are some states even worse - New Jersey is well-known for its criminal activity. A number of southern states are bigoted and racist and have lots of graft within their governments, but we just don't hear about it as often.

There are so many good people in Alaska and we rarely hear about them unless we go digging on some of the sites. I would hesitate to paint all Alaskans with the same paint brush.
