It was very brave of them to jump on the VR hype the way they did and become a leading dev for it while it lasted. Valkyrie was certainly an example of how VR games should and could be done. But I also agree with the notion that the VR hype is dying down again. It's over its high point and as expected it was never able to leave the realm of being a gimmick. VR hardware will need a lot of R&D before it can become a truly viable living room accessoire, and that is simply not happening for the next few years. Instead of trying to break into a stagnant market, CCP decides to get out while they're ahead. And that is indeed the best decision, despite people losing their jobs.

Re: How IWI Made Criminals of CCP and Me

Because anyone who read the entire thing wouldn't call the article stupid. There's plenty of legitimate questions and points in there. And even if the conclusion of the article isn't completely true, a lot of research obviously went into this and I have yet to see anyone refute this article with proper facts, instead of "lol this is so stupid".

Re: How IWI Made Criminals of CCP and Me

Oh look, Reddit found the article and are all calling bullshit without even reading it. Of all the things, that makes the least sense in this entire article.

Re: Selective Availability - Siggy Edition

What makes you think I'm being sarcastic?

Re: Selective Availability - Siggy Edition

1. Anyone asking recurring payments for their software in the EVE community is an asshole. We are a community, either develop software for the community or don't. Don't act like some greedy asshole by charging virtual space bucks.

2. If you deny people a third party tool based on nothing but personal standing, that makes you an even bigger asshole. I'm not saying that's what happened here, but if it is, that's downright disgusting. I don't care what side you're on. You make your shit available to everyone or you keep it in-house for your alliance/coalition. You don't go selectively allowing access to friends and not to enemies. Wars may be waged in EVE Online, but that is not how the EVE community works.

3. Any third party app developer that would abuse their power for their own personal benefit like this shouldn't ever be trusted, period.

Re: The End Game Does Not Look Good for CO2

We'll see in a couple of months how well that notion is going to hold up. One thing I can tell you right now though, The Imperium as a coalition will never die, even if we lose our space we will bide our time and rebuild. But losing every single system we own? Never going to happen. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.

Re: The End Game Does Not Look Good for CO2

How to shoot yourself in the foot with a rocket launcher, 2016 edition. No game developer, no company, is obligated to appoint a council of paying customers to evaluate the product. The entire CSM is a joke and all it does is provide information that CCP could just as easily have gathered from public channels. The elections for CSM and the actual results of it are so close to real life politics I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry. People stabbing each other in the back, smearing reputations, blackmailing each other over some idiotic seat on a made up council that pretends to have actual influence, while all they there for is to provide advice. That's it.

The CSM is a group of glorified customers who are put on a pedestal by other customers, who somehow believe that these people will fix everything that's wrong with their little corner of the universe, while all they are allowed to do is give advice on certain matters. It's the EVE Online equivalent of being in the political opposition. A whole lot of shouting, nothing to show for it and pointing at the powers that be when something doesn't go their way.

The entire CSM should be done away with. It was a joke when it was first introduced and it's been a joke for the entire decade it's been running. If CCP wants feedback on certain things there is a perfectly fine feedback forum on their website that people flock to to give advice all damn day (most of which is ignored or never read). So instead of sitting the devs down with these wannabe politicians, sit those devs behind a computer and have them read the feedback forum for a couple of days straight, take notes and use that instead of the colored feedback from 13 people representing thousands. Because that has always been, currently is and always will be a joke.

Re: The Truth About H1Z1 Hackers

I stopped reading 3 sentences into that advertorial at the start of this article.

Re: EOC.TV Event: Op Success!

Insta-blabbing the guy who arranged it all... not gonna lie, kind of a dick move.

Re: Steam Hardware Shopping Guide

Can we just appreciate that different people have different needs and that Valve is doing an awesome job catering to everyone, including the console crowd who don't want a huge tower and a mess of wires in their living room?

Re: Shake It Off

There is no so what. Like I said, it's quite an accomplishment to get to a point like where the Mittani currently is thanks to a single game. Thing is that at every major turn, he pretends to others and maybe to himself that that isn't the case and that makes people suspicious. And rightfully so.

Re: Shake It Off

There's something you have to realize here. What Mittani has done in the past year or so is essentially monetize his coalition in EVE. His news website started branching out into other games, he renamed the coalition because Clusterfuck Coaltion isn't marketable and a blatant deal was made with H1Z1 devs for cross promotion and money. And you know what, all that would be fine if he would just be up front about it and said that he was doing it for the money. I can appreciate and respect a guy who makes it like he has in the way he did. But at least be honest to the people who you want to support you. Instead we get the same speech he always gives about how everything he and the Imperium does is for the benefit of EVE Online. The deal with H1Z1 was somehow supposed to benefit EVE Online. Renaming the coalition was somehow supposed to benefit EVE Online. This Fountain War book is somehow supposed to benefit EVE Online. And I'm sure that if it would have succeeded, it would have benefited EVE as a game. But let's not pretend MIttani isn't getting a serious cut of the money.

A lot of this has to do with respect for the way someone handles a situation. And as much as I can respect what Mittens has accomplished, I don't respect the way he goes about it at this moment. EVE players aren't stupid. We know damn well that The Mittani has made a full time job of this website and EVE Online, so there's really no point in pretending that he's not in it for the money. He should be in it for the money and honestly saying that he makes money would probably piss people off a lot less than keeping up the charade that everything you guys do is 'for the benefit of EVE'. We know that's not true, you know that's not true. Let's treat each other with some respect.

What has happened with this book right now is that you're charging 150k to self publish a book which raises a lot of questions, even after the explanation of where all the money goes. Add in the ridiculous prices for shipping the physical copies and you have a whole bunch of people who will accuse you of doing a cash grab. It's not a weird thing, it's not unexpected. Treat your fanbase (and even your enemies) with respect and you will receive respect and support in return. The fact that so many people in the EVE community downright hate The Mittani has to do with a lot more than just meta games. Maybe that's something everyone involved with The Mittani and his website(s), including himself, needs to reflect upon for a while.

Re: Nov 2 Fountain War Kickstarter Promo

40 dollars to ship a hardcover book to the Netherlands?!
