The JP used to publish a set of guidelines for talkbackers - one of them was that abusive comments would not be published. Those guidelines were never enforced, and now there are no guildlines at all - anybody can and does publish any kind of trash he wants about me or anybody else, unmoderated. I don't think the JP should publish abusive and at times libelous material, but alas, it does in the Talkbacks section. And I've decided I'm going to fight fire with fire. BTW, I have no problem with substantive criticism from the right, nor even with personal shots that are done with a little humor or intelligence; those are fine. But when I read crude, abusive, pointless and sometimes libelous attacks on me, and the JP refuses to stop them, then I'm going to hit back at will.

Commentary, ADL and AJC are Jewish thought police; they're not worth discussing. (Does "Jewish thought police" sound anti-Semitic? I'll get to that.) The only interesting question is whether the term "Israel Firster" is anti-Semitic, and I think the answer is no, at least not by my standard for judging whether a remark is anti-Semitic, and my standard is that for a statement to be anti-Semitic, it has to be ludicrous. When someone says the Mossad warned the Jews who worked at WTC not to show up for work on 9/11 - that's anti-Semitic. When somebody says Israel injects Palestinians with AIDS, that's anti-Semitic. But I know any number of American Jews who will ALWAYS side with Israel whenever it's in conflict with America, so if someone calls them "Israel Firsters," there's nothing ludicrous about it, which means there's nothing anti-Semitic about it. This is a reasonable, fair accusation, and a reasonable, fair accusation cannot be an anti-Semitic one. Likewise, if you look at all the times Commentary, ADL and AJC denounce critics of Israel as anti-Semites, it's reasonable and fair to call them "Jewish thought police," so there's nothing anti-Semitic about that, either.

The war started with Israel's attack on the Egyptian air force; would Egypt have been justified in occupying Israel? Israel bombed Syria's nuclear reactor; would Syria be justified in occupying Israel?

It's so much worse than this - until the falling out w/Turkey a few years ago, Israel didn't simply ignore the Armenian genocide, it ran interference for Turkey's denial of it. Israel lobby organizations, led by the American Jewish Committee, pressured Congress not to recognize the Armenian genocide, an effort that was led by the White House, which also valued Turkey's strategic cooperation above all else. This is really a long, sordid story, made only more sordid by Israel's sudden recognition of the genocide following Turkey's "radicalization."

Anybody who thinks Israel has the right to remain a Jewish state and whose goal is the two-state solution and not, or at least not necessarily, the right of return, is for all practical purposes a Zionist. This includes the late Tony Judt, Noam Chomsky, Norman Finkelstein, Uri Avnery, and former Meretz leaders Shulamit Aloni and Yossi Sarid. Do you think they are racists? Do you think they are obsessed with the births of non-Jewish babies in Israel? If you don't, how do you explain their support for Zionist goals?

If Palestinian terrorists blew up the Knesset and killed 91 people, mainly civilians, a half-hour after they called the switchboard with a warning, would you defend it? BTW, the Irgun and Shamir's Lehi blew up Arab markets, buses and other civilian gathering places, killing scores of children, women and men.

Good article, also for pointing out that there are Israeli gay activists and human rights festivals that don't take money from the gov't. There's no doubt that many, many thousands of the 200,000 at Tel Aviv Pride are totally against the occupation and gov't pinkwashing (and if Alan Dershowitz calls you an anti-Semite, you should take it as a compliment; what he means is that you oppose Israeli tyranny). Thousands of them are also sympathetic to BDS and have no problem whatsoever with the film directors who boycotted the LGBT film festival, or fully support them.
