I say "cancelled" because I still have Comcast for the internet, and because it works out to be about five dollars more than just having the internet, I have basic cable, which gives my TV the access to the HD OTA channels I could get if I wanted to put an antennae on the roof. Plus I get an SD TBS signal so I'll occasionally watch Conan in low-res glory. Also I get the cable access channel so I can watch great locally produced content. (Smell the sarcasm.) But for the most part I get the majority of my media through my Mac Mini and XBox 360.

On the Mac Mini I use Boxee as the main media server (I tried Plex for a while and found it to be a suitable alternative but I think I just like Boxee's interface and the "Watch on Boxee" bookmarklet better). I use Hulu a lot for the few remaining NBC and Fox shows that I watch regularly.

A few months ago I bought a replacement XBox 360 for the original white one I had that finally died at the end of last summer. I've found that the Netflix experience on the 360 blows away Netflix on Boxee. So I bit the bullet and bought a year of XBox Live Gold (approx $45) for Netflix. The really cool thing about that is you also get access to the XBox ESPN app, which provides a ton of cool, free sports. Lots of college b-ball, soccer, and also a ton of obscure stuff. It's basically ESPN3.com's content accessed through the Xbox interface. So I get some of my sports fix through that.

For more sports there's also ATDHE.NET (which the Feds recently seized for copyright violations, but they're back at their IP: http://88.80.11.29/) and they offer streams of a ton of live sporting events. I just fire up Firefox on the Mac Mini and watch the pixelated stream full-screen, it's not great by any means, but it's better than the radio. This doesn't really help with baseball, but there's MLB.tv (although if you're a Twins fan that still doesn't help you because all local games are subject to blackouts) and I'm not sure what to do about the NFL. I still get local channels, so I can watch the Vikings games, if I'm not at the bar watching them, but other teams I'm still at a loss to figure out. The NBA has the League Pass, which again, if you're a Wolves fan (God help you) doesn't do much since locals are blacked out, but I'm a Suns fan so I'm good to go (not this year, but at least I can watch them).

That pretty much summarizes my media strategy without "cable."

Re: South 12th
