Just watched "The Walking Dead" screener. Titles are great and so is Bear McCreary's score. Arguably fits the mood of the show better and has strong energy to it, though the above video has bigger "wow factor"

Because repeats are part of their programming model. It's all about driving subscribers rather than selling primetime ads. Broadcast same-week encores are rare so you keep things apples-to-apples by just talking about premiere numbers on broadcast to give readers a clear comparative sense of the landscape.

I was just throwing in a link to a story that everybody was talking about and letting readers decide ... as one industry insider who's been at Dancing tapings just told me: "Most of the audience at 'Dancing' tapings are like 70 years old and probably love Sarah Palin. All they care about are the scores, they had to be reacting to the scores."

5.6 makes Glee the highest-rated show of the week. and to do it without a lead-in? Huge. ... the fact it only has 12 million viewers makes that big demo number more impressive, not less ...

yes, it was briefly listed as 'most watched' instead of 'highest-rated' (what i deserve for dashing it off in a starbucks en route to Idol announcement). but glee did indeed air at 9 p.m. in its fall premiere last year

I understand why people feel its in bad taste ... But it's not like if the cameras weren't there, this wouldn't be happening. You know? It's not like this is being done FOR television. You could argue it's more documentary than reality show. In a way, Maddow is journalist who's arguing against putting cameras in a war zone, and she's assuming the worst about humanity by saying that people watching it will WANT to see people killed...

MasterChef had a 2.1 in the finals last week. It's up 5%.
Also, MasterChef is the top-rated new series of the summer, so any bullishness is earned.
I noted Big Brother, which tends to rise as the summer goes on, so it's number isn't unexpected.

Here's the thing. Every reality show has been pitched dozens of times. Nearly every new reality hit results in a lawsuit. Nature of this business. It's not which producer thought of it first, it's which network took a chance and successfully executed the concept first. History scored with a big pawn shop reality show hit first. Anything after that is another network trying to knock off its success.

thanks for the thoughts... What Would You Do was a repeat so i dont generally mention them unless they're really crazy. as for shaq, he earned the headline and a positive lead. but personally, I have a hard time getting excited about anything under a 2.0 on broadcast, especially for a premiere, especially with a much higher lead in. Robbins numbers are below 'soft,' they have hit that zone where I mostly stop using negative adjectives and just get all awkward and quiet. I actually thought Robbins had a good episode last night, tho, better quality than its premiere.
