I just went last weekend and can't wait to add these tips to my next trip. We took the Far Rockaway A train from Hoyt Shermerhorn a little before 10 and got there at 11. You have to transfer to a shuttle train at Broad Channel, but it was really pretty (the track goes by itself over the water - you feel like you're on a boat - really nice) and very easy. We got off at 105th Street and got delicious Blue Bottle Coffee then walked down to 96th where they have Baby Cakes, Rockaway Taco (just chips and salsa, etc. - the real stand with the full menu is not far, but off the Boardwalk), and the banana place by the Vinegar Hill House people. We didn't make it down to 86th, but definitely will next time. Around 2, we walked over to the original Rockaway Taco stand. We got ices from DiCosmo's, which were really good (we tried the ruby red grapefruit and the lemon flavors). The Rockaway tacos were SO DELISH! I got a fish taco and a chorizo taco, both with guac, for $8. Definitely opt for the guac. The beach was clean and nice. We had a decent sized group, but found plenty of room for everyone. It was a bit too cold for swimming, but a few people made it in. When we were all done, we went over to Connolly's, the dive bar you mentioned, on 95th. It was so great. They have frozen drinks - pink lemonade cocktail and a pina colada - and a rum punch cocktail as their specialties. My favorite was the pina colada.

The Brooklyn Based post was instrumental in planning the trip, but I also used this article from the NY Times that came out last year: http://www.nytimes.com/2009...

Thanks again! Love the blog. :)

Re: Movies with a View ideas?

Ah, that's perfect. If you're going with Michael Douglas as half of the Dynamic Duo / Opposites Attract, it's much better than Fatal Attraction / Basic Instinct. Let me know if you have any other ideas!!

Re: Movies with a View ideas?

Johnny Depp on screen at any point? Aw, man. This was my life. My mom never dressed like us, but she MADE THAT OUTFIT. She sewed it together from an ugly pattern, which takes a lot of effort beyond stumbling upon it at Marshall's. We'd have to dress the same in these homemade outfits, then Courtney would get double French braids, I would get a single French braid. The laws of the West... Sigh, childhood in the eighties. Parents don't do that to their kids now, do they? Yikes.

Re: The Hils - Keep expecting the page to stand up and wander off...

Awesome!!
