I agree that this action would be the best for both companies and the marketplace. The companies would have to merge, though, due to licensing issues.

I'm glad you mentioned Larrabee. People dismissed it too early and they are going to be suprised.

I think netbooks will cannabalize notebooks in this recession, especially for college students and the like. Long term, however, netbooks will be a new category that succeeds and fails independant of the other categories. There are just too many usage-scenario pitfalls for them to replace their more powerful notebook bretheren.
