I am intrigued by Ms. Chamberlain's letter. It differs greatly from the one she submitted to the Woodinville Weekly.

In that letter Ms. Chamberlain focused on union negotiations and what reads as a list of her pet-peeves with teachers: how seniority factors in layoffs, how often her child's grades are posted online, teachers being compensated for larger class size, her family having to plan around half days, etc. No scholarly research was presented in that letter to support her grievances.

Ms. Chamberlain's letter to the Bothell/Kenmore Reporter belies her apparent animosity towards teachers, as revealed in her letter to the Woodinville Weekly. What then is Ms. Chamberlain’s real motive behind this so-called “Community Values Statement”?

Dear Kent area teachers,

A salary increase for teachers at this point should be bought and paid for by laying off members of the teaching staff. Your union leadership seems content to demand more money, provided it is others, usually classified staff, who are laid off so to fund your demands for more and more money. This time, your group should eat the cost. How many of the Kent area teachers are willing to be laid off so that the remaining teaching staff can earn more money?

I'm sorry to say that sports are often given preferential treatment by the Northshore School Board. During the most recent school closure crisis, School Board Member Cathy Swanson made it clear that the School Board listens to the most vocal groups of parents, and because the sports-parents are usually well organized they tend to be the most vocal group. Too bad School Board President Swanson fails to put much needed and highly successful educational programs ahead of sports. This year the School Board even voted to allow the sports parents to form a special taskforce to protect the junior high sports programs...a privelege NOT afforded educational programs.

I look forward to this coming Northshore School Board election. It is exciting to see that Todd Banks, of Kenmore Air Harbor is running for the School Board. I believe Todd will be a wonderful addition to the Board, and a welcome break from the "business as usual" and "do whatever the District says" attitude that seems to be the norm for several of the current Northshore School Baord members.
