There is a great way to avoid this "convenience charge". Get off your asses and go to the Tullio Arena box office to buy tickets. I think that's certainly worth $8 or whatever it is.

One can only hope that with DiVecchio on his way out this era of anti-Erie in county council will end too. When Foust ran for Congress and basically said he doesn't care about Erie, that he's more worried about the counties around here shows blatant ignorance to the needs of the people, and it reflects on the feelings of his fellow council members.

It's nice to see council approached the community college backwards. Wouldn't you do a cost analysis BEFORE you spend money? They've looked at sites, hired consultants, done feasability studies... all now wasted. I can tell you one way that buku bucks could be cut out of this project. Stop trying to develop the Oliver Road area into a metropolis of government funded and built projects. There is a GLUT of developable manufacturing facility in the city that could be done for considerably less cost. Additionally, it's near your population center. Sure it sucks that places like Union City and Edinboro are a trip away, but wouldn't you rather build something close to 100,000 people than, say, 2,000?

The Shriners predicament wonders if the entirely non-Shriners board that runs the hospitals is recieving their salaries. I just can't figure out why someone who isn't a Shriner, isn't even a Mason, is heading up the board. Makes no sense. Why not a Shriners Memorial Day Telethon?

It's awful what the mangement of Shriners is allowing to happen. They're wasting their endowment trying to operate a charitable organization like a Fortune 500 company. The head of the board isn't even a Shriner. How can that person truly know what the organization is all about? They certainly were not taught about it wherever they recieved their MBA from. Shriners refuses to actively seek funding from the public. I'm willing to bet if there were a MDA-type telethon for the Shriners over Memorial Day weekend they'd recieve more than enough to INCREASE funding to all those sick and disabled kids they're pulling services from.

"We" have little to do with the people who live in Granada. It is not a project. It is not publicly subsidized housing. People who live there choose to do so. They pay their own rent, bills, etc. If there is a problem with a building it is up to the tenant to notify the landlord. If the landlord is unresponsive, then there are various government agencies that can step in and take action to force repair of said issue. This fire is a tragedy and could've been easily avoided by a few people speaking out and not waiting for someone to take care of them. Perhaps we could all take a lesson from this and be a bit more observant of our surroundings for the benefit of others instead of just waiting for it to be done for us?

It's worth noting that the accident that closed 90 for a few hours yesterday was tragically un-covered by the local news. It seems that a trucker made a concerted effort to miss the bridge over wintergreen gorge. Both of the tow trucks and a service truck from J&C Enterprises (the shop where I keep my truck) were dispatched to recover the truck. One mechanic told me the entire front end of the truck was smashed and the truck had a tire hanging over the edge.

Consider this: when this church was built Kearsarge was an actual place with a council, post office and things of that sort.

I tried to tune in this supposed HD signal from WICU last night and yet again they seem to have dropped the ball. I can pick up 66 and 24's signals clear as a bell but there is nothing for 12 and 35. Or 35.3 for that matter. Lilly Broadcasting seems more unprepared for the switch to digital than a 98 year old farmer in Iowa.

It's not EVDO. In fact after discussing with with a VZ Data Tech recently I discovered that the only large cities in the region without 3G (EVDO) service are Erie and Youngstown, OH. I don't like being lumped in with Youngstown.

Harborcreek should seek eminent domain for the mall property. It certainly is blighted and was neglected by Baldwin Brothers over the years who never seemed to even make a mild attempt at doing anything at all with the property or structure. I'm a supporter of private property but when a company mis-manages a property in their care they shouldn't profit from it.

While I'm pleased that Accuride is expanding here instead of somewhere else (for once!) I still wish there were somewhere to buy their wheels. I own a dump truck and no one, and I mean NO ONE in the area stocks Accuride wheels. It's ridiculous!
