I just saw these at the zoo yesterday! At first I thought they were big Kingfishers, because we do have those in the US (specifically in Michigan, where I'm from). I was corrected by the zoo sign, but somewhat vindicated when I learned that they are closely related to the (admittedly smaller, less impressive, and wholly disinclined to laugh) Kingfisher.

I've never really been a fan of Star Trek, but I love George Takei beyond all reason. Doesn't he seem like a great dude to get a beer with? You know he has some STORIES. And he'd tell them in that crazy resonant voice. He's on my short list of People I'd Love to Meet.

Sorry I keep commenting tonight, but I haven't seen your blog in like 2 weeks and I'm catching up. :)

Anyway, this Sony ad actually made me cry the first 2 or 3 times I watched it. I knew it was just a commercial for a TV, but it was so beautiful it took my breath away for a second. Because I am a nerd.

Well, it was her choice to date within a group of friends. These guys shouldn't have made up a nickname implying she was "loose" - not only is it appallingly old-fashioned, but pretty hypocritical, as I doubt they were making up similar names for themselves while dating her - but if she chose to take charge of her sexual life in this way, more power to her. It's time for the sexual experience double-standard to end. I hope my comments aren't misinterpreted here...
That said, I find her writing banal and tiresome. So's mine, but I'm not trying to make a living at it.
