Mostly all my questions have been answered, or at least the most pressing ones.

Progress is a great thing, looking forward to following this.

Re: MobileChat Update hits App Store

It's quite simple to answer your question about my sole goal.

I believe it is the consumers right and privilegde to keep an eye on, and inform anyone of how a given purchase is functioning. That said, yes I've switched to Beejive, but am still keeping MobileChat.

I run several blogs, some with a LOT of readers, and I honestly believe that giving a "thumbs down" review of an app, requires me to keep eyes on, and correct said review once the app is actually functioning.

IF you consider my posts to be irritating, then do me a favour, dont read them. Simple, isnt it? Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I DO believe that the devs asked everyone to not "go for the man". Yes, my posts may be tearing into the app a bit, but that still does not allow for people to go for anything other than the ball.

Re: MobileChat Update hits App Store

My limit will be set when looking at an app. If it does as required, then my limit is quite high.

I've already stated that I'd happily have paid 10 x the amount of MobileChat, IF it had worked straight off the bat. Which it didnt.

Re: MobileChat Update hits App Store

Ok, so whats the price of an iPhone 3G? I Personally find absolutely no difficulty paying $15,99 for the best IM app on the market for iPhones, hands down. Especially as being online 24/7 on IM is quite crucial for me.

Seriously, $15,99? Its less than an average lunch with a coca-cola, can't imagine it'd ruin anyone.

Re: MobileChat Update hits App Store

Thats why I use Beejive to be honest. Works right off the bat. Quite sure that Fring will get the "remain online after closing the app" feature as well.

Re: MobileChat Update hits App Store

Might I point out, Fring has now hit the appStore, and is... *tadaaaaa* FREE. Now, please go ahead and compete with that, if you will. Do you still welcome the competition, and expect it to make your app stronger?

The short and sweet on Fring. It works flawlessly, and then some.

Now, THATS fringin' freedom, as the saying goes.

Re: MobileChat Update hits App Store

So let me understand you correctly, your post from yesterday (this blogpost) states that "we’ll be upgrade to the 3.1 servers tomorrow, which is when you should really expect to see improvements."

What you are saying then, is that your statement was flawed from the beginning? Thats how I understand your "unrealistic to expect our contracted developers to develop what we need overnight".

For that reason, allow me to ask, when can we expect to have the servers up and running, and again, when can we expect 3.1 to actually work as announced?

Re: MobileChat Update hits App Store

Honestly, that comment is quite amusing. Being a fulltime developer for a living, I'd imagine that I'd have sligth insight into how one goes about developing and releasing, and absolutely nothing about this app has been done correctly. Period.

This could actually be a quite decent text-book example on how NOT to do it.

Now, had the app worked with minor flaws on day one, then fair is fair. Had it been fixed within a couple of week, all good. Had the servers been in place and working after a month, great.

But seriously, the servers arent up. Many many people STILL have to experience this app working. And its been almost two months since release. Yes, thats almost 60 days.

Add to this the fact that the explanations have been flawed at best. "We cannot pull the app because Apple wont let us" changed to "We wont pull the app or put up a message saying it doesnt work, because we dont know how long it would take to get it there and/or resubmit the app" but all of a sudden, voila, a message stating that "users may experience some bugs until the servers are finally up".

I could keep on going, but frankly, I cannot be bothered. Brilliant work? Riiight. Two months are almost gone, the app still does NOT work even remotely as advertised.

Re: MobileChat Update hits App Store

Gentlemen, let me ask you... Whats going to be your perspective on all this, should the so-called 3.1-servers not make everything right?

Re: Putting the Rumor to Sleep

Which is also my point.

People thinking that 3.1 will solve all problems, or that they will be solved anytime soon, are naive, at best.

Re: Putting the Rumor to Sleep

Sorry, but for me, MC is dead.

Let me rephrase that. MC is in coma. Until MC functions 100% as advertised, it will remain there.

Please, correct me. Inform me that once the 3.1 update hits, everything will be 100% as advertised.

Re: Progress.

So you'd keep using your local neighborhood hardware store as a supplier, even though the stuff they sell does not function as expected?

Sure you would.....

Re: Progress.

True, it isnt dead.

However, it does NOT work. Period.

Beejive does exactly as stated. 100%. Push notification works. Everything works. The UI rocks. Buddy lists are displayed correctly. Landscape texting works without a glitch. I could go on and on and on.

Now... I agree that many kids will find it difficult to spill the $15,99 for the app, but ask yourself, the phone itself is NOT exactly cheap. I personally would expect anyone with a phone that costs as much as this, to be able to shell out the $15,99 for a lifetime license.

Maybe I'm wrong? Who knows.

Re: Progress.

Just out of curiosity, why did you shut down for comments?

Really looking forward to see this thing actually function. In Europe this would land you an extremely costly lawsuit, that you'd loose in the blink of an eye.

Seriously guys, that excuse for not pulling the app or making it free is absolutely without a doubt immature at best.

And stating that you refund more than you sell??? So what, people can STILL purchase the app. Close down for selling the app, make it free or pull it, and THEN refund whomever wants it. Any other way is just wrong!

Re: Nothing New.

One simple, quick question that I'd personally like adressed.

Where/how far is 3.1 in the process of getting approved?

I do assume that it IS in fact under way, yes?

Re: Nothing New.

Yes, it is only $2,99.

However, an app that absolutely does not do as announced, should not be for sale, period.

At least you'd expect the devs to put up some "DO NOT BUY YET" warnings.

Imagine those $2,99 multiplied by 100. Or by 10.000. Now, that number could be the amount of people having purchased this app.

As monkeyrun says, it's a matter of principle.

Or hang on, let me make an app that shows an image of my face, and sell that through the appStore for $2,99 stating that it is an MMS app. No difference.

The devs need to be happy that they're in the states and not in europe. This sort of stuff is prosecuted here, and rightly so.

Re: Today's *Ahem* Yesterday's Update

Lets have the devs state that they want no negative comments and/or will not respond to any of such then.

Re: Today's *Ahem* Yesterday's Update

And I shall keep regurgitating until I get the answers I am looking for :)

Please, pay attention to the fact that I am responding to Saverios post. Not even the slightest. Why? Let me explain.

1. You will not (and cannot according to yourselves) set a deadline for when the app will function. This is the absolute first step in ANY production, software or not.

2. You cannot anticipate problems you havent had yet. Of course not, and thats fine. However, with an app that (according to yourselves again) has a lot of problems, you'd expect it to be alpha. Once only a few problems are left, you'd expect it to be beta. Once hardly any problems are left, go sell it. To charge for an app that has this amount of problems is just downright ridiculous.

3. You have yet to pull the app. Why? Looking at the amount of apps that have been pulled recently, both by Apple and by the devs themselves, it continues to amaze me that you stick to the "But apple wont pull it" statement.

4. There is absolutely NO warning on your website about the state of the app. Well, there is, but why not put up a "Dont buy this yet" statement? Yes, you've stated that the reviews of the app should be enough. Well guess what, people rarely read reviews.

5. Your analogy about going to airline customer service in an uproar is right on the money. It would be stupid to do that, since it would get you nowhere, and it would be uncalled for. But believe you me, if an airline lost my luggage, and still hadnt returned it to me a MONTH later despite plenty of promises of doing so, then there's absolutely reason for uproar, involvement of lawyers and what have you.

Incredibly unimpressed to be honest. And why do people post posts like this on your blog? Well, for one maybe it will spur you into realising that you're not even close to living up to expectations, and for another, maybe it will ultimately mean that some people at least wait with purchasing MobileChat till it works.

Sort of like the multitude of blogposts on the net telling it how it is.

Re: PwnageTool 2.1 and QuickPwn 1.1

You are the sole reason that I will jailbreak my 3G.

I trust no other people with hacks, you have the reputation and the skill to do it right, every time!

Keep up the most excellent work!

And yes... This is beyond a joke now...

MC is still not functioning. Whatsoever. It's still in the appStore, for people to buy, unknowingly.

Looking at the MC site, this is what is written under "Status":

System Status:

We are currently experiencing extremely high loads due to our recent AppStore launch. Intermittent disconnections should be expected while we work to scale our software.

Please, this is downright ridiculous, bordering on purposeful deception.

I say this with the best of meanings, at least have the decency to be straight with potential customers. Put up a big, huge warning sign on the MC site recommending people NOT buy MC at this point in time.

Update the site to show the truth of this product.

And please, pretty please with sugar on top, give us, your customers, a deadline as to when _EVERYTHING_ is functioning, fully.

Because you DO know when you will have the app up and running, right?

ANYTHING less of what I suggested in this post is to be considered absolutely below what is expected, it would be immature and irresponsible not to do all of the above.

Please, I plead with you for the last time, set things straight once and for all.

If not, then call it quits. Be open about it, and call it quits. You've been powering on for a month since release and MC still isnt functioning... There is a point where its all about cutting ones losses and starting to lick ones wounds... that time is about now, if things arent set straight.

Re: Server Updates Went Live Today

One month has passed since release.

Status?
