If I were pushed, I'd probably stump for a C2-01 for T9, good old fashioned Nokia robustness and reliability.

The Asha 302 isn't too bad for qwerty, although haven't used one 'in anger'.

Good heavens, do not get the Asha 300. Truly terrible device.... dials random people when trying to scroll through the address book. Infuriating. Laggy. Shit.

One of the older E-Series is the way to go, E52/72 for simple voice & text. I use the E62 for my work phone, but thats only because I'm a tight arse.

Just bought one from CPW yesterday as my first foray into WP.

Seems pretty nice so far, my only bug bear is the amount of wasted screen space all over the place.

Just a word of note, if you intend to put your contract SIM into one in this offer, don't let on to the CPW salesperson. I got a jobsworth who then refused to sell it to me. I ended up going to the other store a couple of miles away.

Whilst I agree with the most of it, won't HTC et al managed to find a decent camera etc before Nokia manages to get a WP7 device out of the door?

I think much of the perceived problems with S^3 will be resolved if Nokia can bring the browser up to iOS/Android standards in this fabled firmware update supposedly happening in the new year. Other than the lack of developer support, which is obviously concerning, I don't think iOS and Android have actually got as far ahead of Symbian as it may appear at first glance.

I definitely agree that the plethora of boring Android slabs is both unimaginative and irritating on many levels. At least Nokia are coming to market with something different. On this note, I am finding it more difficult to stop myself trying out the Palm Pre 2. I can deal with the small screen, due to me being an E71 user, and the webOS does look very good indeed. Maybe it would tide me over until either the new MeeGo devices are out and established, or the E7 is stable and at a more reasonable price.

Ha, yes indeed! The lure of the new tech can overcome any pre-meditated decision not to buy! It has been hard to keep to my own personal rule that I would not get the iPad, but wait until the iPad2 came out. Luckily, I think I'm over the worst of it now, and only have a few more months to wait.

The trouble for me, is if Nokia announce their next device, I may well be forced to pin my hopes on that, and not the E7......

What phone are you using? I just go into the MfE email settings, and set the "Synchronise email" setting to "No", and then it's all ok.

However, all the Nokia phones are slightly different.

It's not too bad, but not in the same league as Android or the iPhone. There is a new firmware coming early next year which should include a new browser..... hopefully!

A good battery saving I think could be implemented is to at least have an option for a device to automatically fall back to 2G coverage when it is connected to WiFi. 3G is only realistically important for data, and once you are on WiFi, this becomes irrelevant. I feel some good battery saving is to be had there, especially if you live/work in a fringe area.

I'm back on an E71, and will normally last a full day, then until about midday of the next day. I do use my phone pretty hard though!

This is the first Sharpie pen I have ever come across on the UK High Street. We don't seem to have a great amount of choice when it comes to Sharpie things unfortunately.

Is the original the same tip and ink, just different barrel?

Yes, I very rarely use the flash. Only use the flash in poor light, and if your subject is about 1 to 3 metres away.

Yes, I had an E61 a few years ago too. Really loved it, but nowhere near a pocketable as the E71. Battery life on the E71 has been great so far.

Let's face it, the N8 is never going to be an overwhelming success in the US. No Nokia phone ever has been. The only problem is, is that many pre-determined aspersions have now been cast and those who have not had the device yet, already think it's not as good as the chuffing iPhone.

I just want to be clear here, that I'm not bitching because I didn't get an N8 to review. I'm well down the list when it comes to getting review devices, I know that, and it doesn't bother me.

I'm merely championing the fact that the 'small folk' in the blogging world can make just as much impact as the big hitters if they are given the tools to do so. Nokia should have realised that just because they think the N8 is the best thing since sliced bread, not everyone would agree. Always best to have a backup plan in formulation in case it all goes belly-up. ;-)

They should have been prepared for some people to hate the N8. It was inevitable really. They could have counter-balanced it by getting more review units out to the Nokia bloggers at the same time.

To fail to prepare, is to prepare to fail, as they say.

Some great arguments here both for and against.

With the Ricky situation, I thought Anssi was quoted as saying something along the lines of 'wooing him back to Symbian one day'. If so, then why has he not had an N8 thrust down his throat?

At the end of all this, you never get a second chance to make a first impression (to coin a Head & Shoulders phrase), and with this many people have already made their own opinions up from what they have read so far. i.e The N8 isn't very good.

IMO the damage has already been done to the N8's reputation, at least in terms of the North American market. Surely if Engadget saw the N8 as a major deal Josh would have had it first to review anyway, non?

Nokia need to move fast now, and get the N8 in some more subjective hands.
