In my 40 years following Rush I think that the current GOP stands for everything that members of the band are against. Although I of course can't speak for Geddy, Alex & Neil, based on lots of past interviews their social views are 180 from this GOP that continues to bash the LGBT, outlaws woman's rights for their own bodies, and supports unchecked gun proliferation and rushing to war before exhausting all diplomatic efforts. Add in forcing religion down peoples' throats, allowing uncontrolled corporate greed and race baiting and you have just about everything they oppose.

Gosh and it only took the FPPC 3 1/2 years to wrap this up? How many millions did the commission spend in that time? And commission found it was really not the fault of the Westly campaign but the vendors? How come they did not get fined? That a waste of time and money. The commission never goes after the real abuse does it? Are they getting furloughed too?

Such bitterness. We see this all the time. People that are so unhappy with their lot in life they want everyone is to be miserable. "I have to work 80 hours a week so you should too." "I don't have health care so you should not either." "You should have to work until you are 70." Amazing things is that most of the time it turns out these people make huge amounts of money and they just want more and resent having to pay taxes.

Instead of trying to raise the bar for all workers there are some that think it best the bar be lowered, so as to protect the wealthy from taxes. The reason there are unions is to protect the middle class from abuses by politicians and their fat cat friends. If you want to talk about greed talk about Wall Street or corporate CEO excessive salaries and bonuses as the expense of working people. Then these people complain about paying taxes.

Greed and selfishness are awful things. And bitterness is just sad.

The average CalPERS pension payout is $2,000 a month. $24,000 a year. If the taxpayers can't afford that for their public servants they are the ones being greedy. And no one retires at 50 with a pension except public safety, Arnold's pets.

How can the state afford the cost of filling a largely ceremonial position when the governor declared a "fiscal emergency"? Where is the cost savings?

Or perhaps a "fiscal emergency" is a purely political (oxymoron noted) declaration from GAS? It seems to be.

The state GOP calls their parties governor a RINO and has called Maldonado a turncoat and threatened to oust him for not voting lockstep with the party of "NO".

Politics at it worse.

I respect Maldonado. If Sacramento was not so polarized by partisan poop perhaps more could be accomplished for fine people of California.

Sorry, I have to run. I am parked at a red curb and need to get in my car to drive and make a cell phone call.

No, I do not have a backyard. Nor a water meter. But I see water waste all over this state. In the dry season we all see muddy lawns, moss growing, too green lawns and water running into the storm drains all because of over use of outdoor water.

Most large population centers in California are essentially deserts. Why are we wasting water to keep lawns green? The majority of water usage is outdoor watering. Plant native plants and get used to living in an area that does not get rain for months at a time, and there will be plenty of water for things such as crops and basic human needs.

Drive around Brentwood or Sacramento at night and see all the water wasted to keep things green for no need other than eye candy.

We can't afford $10 billion for eye candy when we can't support other state services.

Another "crisis" from the worse governor in California history. Talk about short-sighted? Close down centers for battered women but push another bond on us to pay for years on end? Brentwood needs to go brown.

If the governor was serious about saving money on contracting out he would have Marie Harder working full-time on uncovering wasteful outsourcing instead of having his spokesperson defending the waste of tax dollars on expensive contracts for work that could –and by law should – be performed by state workers.

We have contractors who have been at my department for 16 years, doing routine IT work. The CIO talks about “knowledge transfer” and we have it at my department but it flows the wrong way; contractors trained by state staff.

Why does this continue? Because of cozy relationships between managers and contractors. (Good way to set yourself up for a new job at retirement.) And on a larger scale, cozy relationships between contracting firms and the Capitol, all at taxpayer expense.

And enough about the “outlandish pensions”. State IT workers pay into their pension plan and when the economy was good there were years that CalPERS did not even charge state agencies with a contribution because the investments were doing so well.

Painful for some more than others. Big Tobacco won. We keep the 30th lowest cigarette taxes in the nation. State employees pay 30% of wages to help Marlboro.
