When the Americans invaded Afghanistan, the Taliban was instantly ousted, because it was so hated that tens of thousands of Afghans rose up against it. The U.S. was greeted as a liberator. And now America is seen as WORSE than the Taliban.

So much about it is fucked up. For a start, HALF of the parliamentarians are former "warlords"- for example, the Vice-President is famous for running over members of minority ethnic groups with tanks while he was in charge of an Afghan city. The "warlords" date back to the civil war... they are more hated than the Taliban, with good reason. And the U.S. is openly allied with them.

Not to mention the fact that $12 billion dollars were given to the Karzai govt to rebuild the nation after the NATO invasion- and most of that mysteriously appeared in the pockets of government officials... and Western corporate staff working there.

Hearts and minds.

Luckily like some other people here I live in Australia, so we have public health care. We also have a much higher standard of living and much lower mortality rate than America... wonder why that is?

This guy has been in trouble with the police before, actually. He said that the Bible justifies bombing mosques and discriminating against Muslims (who, ironically, he regards as terrorists). Don't think anything came of it though.

This is all going to seem silly in a few decades, of course, since most young people support same-sex marriage. In fact, come to think of it, don't most adults here support it?

Actually, if they can refuse to operate on someone because of "personal beliefs", couldn't in theory they refuse to give treatment to some because of their political position? Like, a Republican refusing to treat a Democrat, or vice versa (especially in an election year, when they'd be wearing badges and whatnot)?

This just reaks of "Give a Democrat a popular mandate, will you?! Well suck on THIS, America!"
