I agree with you almost 100% here. The only thing I would disagree with is the part where you say "don’t be afraid to confidently use the words you don’t know, too! " In my opinion using words you don't know incorrectly is one of the easiest ways to make yourself look like an idiot. Just my two pence. Great post by the way. The confident is surely King! I'm a big advocate of that.

I will be doing that, yes. I'm just trying to figure out how I'd lay it out. I may just put something up and tweak it with time. We'll see.

I think that warming your ear to the language is indeed the best way to get started. As you know, I’m currently learning Japanese. I listen to Japanese radio and watch Japanese videos on YouTube just so that I am exposed the language and my ears can warm to the stress, rhythm and speed. Although I don't understand very much I'm beginning to recognise where words begin and where they end. The next step is going to be associating the sounds that come up again and again to objects, actions and descriptions. I think the power of discovering a language is learning through context. When you learn with an emotion attached things stick SOOO much better, whether that emotion is frustration, anger, or happiness.

It's going to be interesting to see if you come up with the same conclusions as myself. Perhaps you have already?

Great post!

I am a big believer in learning things from context. What one NEEDS language for are the only things that are NEEDED to be learnt.

Learning for the sake of it is so much harder than learning for a purpose. Of course, this all changes when you inject the enjoyment factor into the learning process.

I agree with you here. I took a few classes for Spanish at university but they didn't teach me very much, simply because I was too advanced for the class morever, they were focusing on diffefernt aspects of the language in isolation where as in my self study I was exposed everything. I slowly became aquanted with the way things worked THE NATURAL WAY.

I just thought i'd add my two pence.

Excellent challenge. One of my bucket list items is going to be "learn to programme' I'm not yet sure which programming languages I'm going to invest my timeinto, however, Cocoa is deffinitly in the top 5 selcetion.

It will be great to watch your progress on this one.

I'm cosdering an application for the iphone/ipad where All of my social networks are accesible from one loation with some extra's of course this will depend on the success of my blog http://www.davidmansaray.com

I agree with you to some extent but I think that really depends on how big your brand is, but for most people I suppose you're correct.

Yes a 'good' app for Wordpress is needed. It would be great if you could pull that off. The official Wordpress app is pretty useless!
