I had a right thoracic curve of 76 degrees and I would quite often sleep in a foetus position - however, be conscious of pressure sores when sleeping like this - I use a memory foam leg wedge to prevent this and it also helps to support the spine and lumbar

Re: The Chickens Arrive in Monda!

Hi Wendy

Welcome - I've been slacking lately on the blogging front due to moving home but I am now settled in Mijas and have started growing in the garden again - I do not know where you can get silky chickens from in Valencia but I know which hens you are talking about - they are so pretty! The Facebook group has various members in stages of Scoliosis treatment, either surgery or bracing, the group varies in ages also. We would be more than happy to help and assist your daughter through these tough times, tell her she is not alone and do not hide from the world because she is wearing a brace, she has nothing to be ashamed of

Re: Scoliosis Awareness Bracelet

Hi, not the first no, but the first for the UK, yes. (Retirement plans at 34 eh!)

Of course we can spread the support to North America, how would you like to go about it, we have members on the page from all over America and they use the website, perhaps we could add a section to the website for you focusing on North America, where the healthcare providers are, which hospitals, Drs and so on, could you provide that? I would be happy to incorporate whatever you need for the website and if you want me to send over some wristbands for you to sell/raise awareness there, then by all means we can do so

Simone xxx

Re: Red Weevil Update

Hi Karima, the red weevil is becoming a real pain for many gardens, touch wood we have been fine so far and not spotted anything! What is a donor site? The donor site is the scar located on my left hip where they extracted bone for my surgery which was used to place around the spine to keep the rod in place. It is uncommon for a donor site to be used these days, it was popular in the late 80s and 90s but not today. My nerve pain is as a result of this donor site, there are millions of nerves that encompass the pelvic area, in order for them to get to the bone there, they cut straight across those nerves, severring them in half, there is nothing they can do to repair those nerves as they are too fine so my last surgeon visit basically said "get on with it there is nothing we can do to repair the damage that has been caused". xx

Re: Life and Lyrica!

Oh Linda, I know babe I have had those thoughts myself and wished I could take people's pain away but it is not to be eh :)

Thanks for the compliments, make me blush slightly as I do not see myself as that, I see myself as a winger who cries more than the average female hahaha!

Re: Life and Lyrica!

Hey Gina, I have noticed that I have gained weight, doesn't seem to be much but still, us girls don't like extra weight do we?! No the muscle spasms are still as vibrant as they always were and I had my first bad hit of them this week, in fact I was about to write a blog about them, I am finding the only position that works this morning is on an office chair forcing my stomach forward. I made the wristband so the UK had an official one but not a ribbon. If you want to create a fun run then I don't mind helping you or adding to any of my networks, websites, blogs :) xxx

Re: "It is too an old persons disease!"

Hey hun, the reason I get so much pain from my donor site is because the nerves that encompass the pelvis were cut literally in half, now because these nerves are so small it is impossible for him to open that site up again and try to stitch them together. I was also not hoovered out properly so there are bone fragments floating around that area which daily touch the nerves and cause horrendous pain, the scar swells and looks like it is going to burst (best way to describe it), when it swells I know now I am in for a pain hit. There is nothing they can do, so Lyrica right now seems to be the answer as much as I HATE PILLS. All the best my lovely twisted blogger, make sure you update us and while you are seeing the Dr get answers to everything you can think of ;) I would like to know what Canadian surgeons think to Theraflex and CLEAR Institute's methods of "curing" (and yes I use that term LOOSELY!) Do you know what these injections contain? I had an SI joint injection a few years ago with cortisone and local anaesthetic - you cannot have more than 4 cortisone injections a year so please check this.

The SI injection did nothing for me, I had this in 1998 and it was so horrifying I said I would not go through it again

Are they doing some kind of numbing here? I ask because I was offered numbing treatment for my nerve pain from the donor site a few years ago but the result could mean I would need a bag for the rest of my life as I would not be able to tell when I needed the toilet - I refused as I do not want a bag, no matter how much the pain hurts :)

Do let us know how you get on and I wish some relief for you.......
