Wish I had the time to do it would be a fun one.

Re: The Fast Lane, The Slow Lane, and The No Lane

What really needs to be done is that the last mile needs to go back into the hands of good companies that have to compete for customers.

Either using Kickstarter directly or creating a platform like it to gather neighborhoods to put up their own infrastructure and last mile that then can be directly connected to the backbone.

I would be happy to pay for "clean" bandwidth at my home and business.

I do not trust the government or the current last mile providers to do what is right. There are many efficient ways to deliver last mile bandwidth and it is time in my opinion that the crowd and local entrepreneurs take this situation into their own hands.

Re: Armory Show at the Pier

Compared to some pieces that I have seen sell for way more then that almost seems like a bargain...

Re: Armory Show at the Pier

That marble carving of NYC looks amazing.

Re: Mt Gox

I understand that new technology can be messy, I live that every day.

However something that I have not understood while watching/buying/selling bitcoin is why Gox had a much higher sell price for bitcoin for the weeks/months proceeding the collapse. I kept asking people who know bitcoin and they kept giving me different answers on this but nothing seemed to really add up.

I have looked for a thoughtful article on the topic post collapse but have not seemed to find someone that has dug into this in a deeper way.

Discrepancies should not occur in markets like bitcoin as arbitrages that big never exist. While the explanation coming out of Gox might be 100% correct and true it does seem fishy that before they fell, the price on their exchange was artificially high, brining in more coin and not allowing that money to be withdrawn.

I will buy more coin, on coinbase, but going to wait as I am not sure if all of the blood is out yet.

Re: The New AVC

Site looks great. Here are a few points:

-Mobile only is actually not true, DoorBot (my product) works with both smartphones and tablets. Tablets are a huge use case for us.

-We are selling to people that have already made the shift to having all smartphones in the household. I can tell you both from the sales that we are seeing and every piece of analysis done this is not a small market.

-Our product does integrate with the current legacy doorbell's so someone inside will still hear the bell.

-To make the argument that mobile only is bad vs. having a panel is a bit flawed and the evidence is all around us. All of the products that were building that way are from the past and all of them are moving to phones/tablets. Sonos was not selling as well when it had a proprietary controller, after the iPhone, Sonos took off.

Smartphones and tablets have already won as the controller in the home and we are happy to be suppliers to that market.

Jamie Siminoff, Inventor
DoorBot

Re: DoorBot: For Those With Really Popular Homes

David, first of all thanks for the post. However I think that you are not looking at the main use case for the device. Over 70% of our customers buy the DoorBot for security. Security is a few things.

1. Being able to answer the door and appear as home when you are even half way around the world.

2. Being able to answer the door inside the house without having to go to the door and confront the visitor. This is a big one for my wife. When she is home alone she loves this feature.

3. Recording visitors that come to your front door. Most crime is done during the day when no one is home. DoorBot is perfectly positioned to capture this. (This feature is rolling out in about 1 month).

Anyway I did enjoy your piece as even while you did call my product silly, in the end I think that you even came around to the fact that it might be something that has some value.

Also if you want to get the full DoorBot pitch watch Shark Tank this Friday night.

Jamie, Inventor
Doorbot

Re: Tech Is NYC's Second Largest Job Sector

This is very similar to what is happening in LA. Is a full automated office chair manufacturer a furniture company or a tech company? I just visited one in LA and I would say it is a tech company.

Silicon valley is such pure tech that it is easy to see and understand. But place like NYC, LA, etc. have a lot of crazy tech going but it can be covered up in businesses that are not necessarily so clear to see.

Re: Starting and Finishing

Companies are like kids. But when you consider that those same people are allowed to lose their money to companies who are literally designed to take it (Casinos) why not let them at least have a shot at making it back with something they believe in. Sure there will be risk and losses but at least they will be allowed to spend the money they made the way they choose.

Re: Some Thoughts On The SEC's Rulemaking On General Solicitation

A heard someone say in regards tot he accredited investor stuff that we allow people to literally gamble away all of their money in a casino without any regulation but that same person if un-accredited can not invest in a startup.

I understand the idea that we need to try and protect people but when you look at it in context of what is allowed with gambling, it makes me think we should just open it up 100% and at least allow people to bet at a table where the other side is not built to steal their money.

Re: Snowden: Traitor or Hero?

Agree100%.
