I'm SOO glad that I am nothing like other Hispanics. The few things I share with other Hispanic dudes is my enjoyment of comedy, and my love for the mars volta (because I like their music, not because they are beaners -__-), and Colombian, because well, that's what I am.

I also look nothing like the average Colombian/Spic so that works too xP

eh, I don't know if you'll find any one particular riff that rox your sox off, but a lot of the songs have incredibly intricate riffing and nice guitar textures. But by the very virtue of the music being heavily influenced by shoegaze, the music focuses more on atmosphere than anything instantly gratifying like an amazing riff.

Basically, it's some good shit, but I could totally understand if you can't get into it.

Go you should totally attempt to listen through the whole album. The raspy/shrieked vocals are present on like two songs, and they fit the songs well as it is.

I have Alcest's second tagged as "Post-Black Metal".

I have the latest album of Niege's other project, Lantlos, on my comp but I have yet to listen to it. Although from what I've heard it certainly is similar to Alcest.

There's a nice mix of genres in there, and they aren't ALL metal, but they are all quality records. There's also some more crap in my need to listen to folder and some new stuff coming out soon so we'll see how I'll condense that list to like ten albums.

gah the mention of Dream Theater reminds me that you're a fan! What's your favorite album? For me it is a toss up between Awake (because this was not only my first taste of 'em, but also because the band seems much more focused on song-writing than on technical wankery) and Train of Throught (because despite the presence of the instrument masturbation, it was a much more metal album than most of what they had done before). Metropolis is a close runner-up though ;P

I feel like I have to include this um...~interesting~ excerpt from a D interview held by the JaME staff concerning the plot of "Akaki hitsuji blah blah blah"

"ASAGI: This song is a part of the vampire story descried by D and a new character plays a major role. The female vampire, Carbuncle (meaning a garnet), is faithful to the king who quit sucking blood and she goes on a hunt for evil vampires still sucking blood. Elements of the story of "Little Red Riding Hood" and the Bible are woven into the song through Carbuncle's hooded red cloak and the sheep, which represents a person of loyalty in the Bible."

As almost everyone who is an X Japan fan should know, Yoshiki is the band and he is the label. The man is a fucking colossus in the Japanese music industry with very far reaching influence. HE gets the monies. I'd be surprised if the other members ever received any royalties.
