I like how the writer doesn't even try to come up with any sort of scientific explanation...no hidden rockets, or electricity, or magnetism, or anything...just some mysterious, unexplained chemical.

NBwaW, back then, comic writers wrote for 10 year old boys, more or less. The basic assumption then was that boys gave up comics once they hit their teen years and discovered girls (that's what Walt Simonson said happened to him LOL), and obviously DC assumed all 10 year old boys thought girls were icky and dumb and no more than objects of derision (just recall every cruel thing they put Lois Lane and Lana Lang though). So of course a state-of-the-art robot, fashioned to look and act like a female, would be a lovesick fool.

I was initially under the impression that the Science Museum would study Tina for the betterment of human (and robot) kind, but instead it appears that their whole plan is to just stick her in a glass box...but to what point? I mean, if you've got a robot that can do all sorts of fantastic things with its body, and is exceptionally personable, wouldn't you want it to 'perform' for the public so as to draw crowds? Who wants to come stare at a crying metal mannequin? Someone did not think this whole thing through.

This was actually a staple attraction at carnivals, county fairs and Coney Island...although usually the target wasn't sticking his head through a sheet, but rather had room to dodge and move as you tried to hit him. The appeal for black men to take up this line of work was that it traditionally allowed them to goad whites with all manner of insults (so as to infuriate them enough to pay money to throw balls at them), making it just about the only opportunity they had in the Jim Crow era to talk back to the Man and not have to worry about being lynched for it.

Back in, I think, JLA #200 they did something that I thought made sense: Hawkman had to fly from one side of the world to the other, but instead of going horizontally, he flew to the edges of space, going straight up, then flying directly down to where he had to go. They had him think to himself, "Instead of taking hours to fly, this allows me to make the entire journey in under thirty minutes," or something like that. Hey, as far as funny book physics go, that makes more sense than a lot of what they throw at us.
