I just started suffering from this a couple of years ago. I am 48, almost 49. Usually I have to get up and stretch and walk around repeatedly until it subsides enough for me to sleep. I appreciate your reply! I already love to drink Tonic Water... how much would I have to drink to help, do you think? LOL!

It would be helpful to have more disambiguation between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in this article. There are zero non-insulin treatments for Type 1 diabetes, and that really isn't made clear.

The cost of insulin for my T1D stepdaughter is a travesty, and we are lucky to have decent insurance. Even with insurance, the cost is breathtaking for a non-optional, life-sustaining treatment.

Circumcision was popularized in the US by religious nut jobs who wanted to stop masturbation. Full stop. Every other excuse stems from a desire to excuse that. And in most of the big, wide world, a cosmetic surgery is not done on infants without a really good reason. Or more religion! All you have to do is keep it clean (once it detaches on its own! Usually around puberty!). Trust me, vulvas are more effort to keep clean, with all of our delicious nooks & crannies.

It's not always that simple. I've been food diary-ing for over two years, and I'm routinely "in the green". I walk 1-2 miles every day. I'm not losing weight.

My doctor has been looking into endocrine explanations. I now take thyroid supplements, but that's clearly not all that's going on.

Claiming it's just calories in/calories out does a huge disservice to reality & discourages people from getting appropriate testing & help from medical professionals when needed.

And ALL I AM SAYING, for the English-impaired, is that NOT saying that stupid lie would HELP by NOT setting off parents who are sensitive to being lied to. If we want more uptake, we should be honest and not exaggerate EITHER assertion.

Well, accusing me of "playing the victim" is pretty hostile. :-) And making up background or intent for my very simple and subtext-free comments is also hostile, when the assumptions paint me as an anti-vaxxer, instead of a rational human being (and Banter fan, which ought to count for something), who is trying to contribute to the mitigation of damage in this arena, and encourage vaccination uptake, NOT discourage it.

You clearly don't read as much hysteria on this topic as I do. As an Asperger parent with an HFA child, trust me, I have read A LOT on this topic, and there are MANY people who make exactly that claim. EXACTLY. They demean the questioning parents by lying to them there is no such thing as an adverse reaction, instead of being scientifically accurate and saying that adverse events are rare and worth it overall. It's misleading and dense, and only fosters suspicion in the already-suspicious. That is ALL I am saying.

Kudos to you if YOU never say such misleading things to anxious parents. :-)

Wow, so many hostile readers who are assuming I'm saying something I am not saying. How disappointing. "My rational"? I have no need for a "rational" because I AM rational and I am not an anti-vaxxer.

And it's not about being litigious. There ARE adverse reactions, just not the recently publicized, hysterical ones, and being informed about them when you decide to vaccinate is something parents ought to take seriously. If you do NOT read them, you don't know what to do if your child has seizures (very common reaction, BTW), or hives, or projectile vomiting, or crying for >4 hours, or any other of a number of reactions that DO warrant a call to the doctor.

I am in no way taking an anti-vax position, and I'd expect more thoughtful replies from Banter readers, seriously.

My point is that the people lying to parent that there is never any adverse reaction to any vaccine are NOT HELPING by LYING. Instead, they give fodder to those who not appreciate being lied to.

And a certain percentage of "the herd" has to decline immunizations to have the effect described. If single-dose vaccines were more widely available, it would be considerably easier to encourage disinclined parents, period.

Thank you for acking that alternative vaccine schedules should be respected. If only big pharma would stop aggressively discontinuing the single-dose vaccines that allow us to manage the assault on our kids' immune systems in a responsible way, with support from our physicians. I notice you didn't mention, and I think it's becoming more and more important to do so in these types of articles, that in fact there ARE contraindications for various vaccines, as evidenced by the multi-page handouts doctors are required by law to give parents when they agree to vaccines. As with almost everything, the truth is in the middle. "The sky is falling" crazy is not properly offset by assertions that "vaccines are perfectly safe and no one has ever, ever had an adverse reaction". Both are deceptively simple notions and neither are accurate.
