Why? Because if you look at medicine dispensed in the US, 85% of all prescriptions are generic-filled. And generics are often the same or cheaper in the US than they are in Canada.

One example the Partnership for Safe Medicines researched is Crestor. The generic is 20 cents cheaper in the us, even after converting the Canadian dollar to US dollars. It's by no means the only example.

http://www.safemedicines.or...

One you start to realize that many, many drugs are the same or cheaper in America than Canada, the risk of getting a counterfeit because you did business with someone pretending to be Canadian becomes silly. https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

Re: Wow: Nastygram from the Brown campaign

I think we all know the source of this apropos quote, "
“First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win.”

Re: Success! An old-old phone or a new-new phone?

I was going to just solder you up a demultiplexer, but then I realized I don't have any time to do my own projects...

So I called FrillFreePhones for you and asked them if they carry a demultiplexer cable that would take the 25 pin cable and break it out into individual RJ45 lines for wall use.

They do sell a "harmonica adapter", which breaks out the 25 pin cable into individual RJ11 ports that you could plug into several phone lines. There are some limitations:
1. It will only ring on one line (though perhaps the lights would light up?)
2. The hold button won't work.

I also asked, and they don't sell multi-line phones that don't work with multiple RJ11 jacks.

Sorry, that's the best I could do.

Re: Netbooks look increasingly appealing but I’m not sold yet

The ASUS EEE PC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... is a small form factor portable that misses the boat in a couple of ways.

First, as items get smaller, their network connectedness must rise. The Asus 700 series (what I have) is still wifi at best, with no edge or 3g. Also, as items get smaller, their form factor and flexible operation becomes more important. Can I operate this one handed? No. It's just a really small laptop with a cramped keyboard.

The ASUS has been described as a response to the One Laptop Per Child project boxes, but I disagree. There's no way this competes with those units for durability in the field.

I think this is a really good example of the "straight line innovation" fallacy. "Laptops are getting smaller, let's make the smallest one!" "Portions are getting bigger, let's serve the largest one!" Product usability is a balloon, when you change one part, another part has to change in response to it. The EEE PC palmtop just got smaller without taking into account those other factors.

Re: Netbooks look increasingly appealing but I’m not sold yet

I've been wrong before. Actually, very wrong many times. But I think Apple's strategy is not to try and break a new category like netbooks, but to make the iPhone so useful you don't need one.

I've been playing with my Asus palmtop for months now and it's unrewarding purely because of the expectations. I expect it to be something it can't be in its form factor. On the other hand the iPhone blows away any previous cellphone I've owned.

Ever since the Newton lesson (not Jobs' mistake), I think people have learned how much user expectation matters in the success of a product. A netbook looks like a smaller laptop, and is doomed to be less pleasing.

Re: Michel Gondry: Be Kind Rewind & Master of Space and Time |
