Sproul said at ShepCon that Scripture is basically equal to Jesus because he authored it and is the Word. I hope posts like yours can put the bibliolatry thing to rest. Most Christians haven't even read the whole thing. I don't think bibliolatry, if it exists, is much of a concern.

Re: A Child Wiser Than Most Adults

Could you tell me where this was found? The only thing I'd quibble with is that I don't think God always works on the big things first. In fact, I'd say he often works on the smaller, easier things first and then gives us the bigger stuff. For me, swearing was one of the first things. I didn't swear a whole lot to begin with, and after a few slips of the tongue, I was done swearing. (I'd like to do a post on that but I'm reticent. I admire you for tackling this.) The fact that Christ needed to die because of my sinfulness came much later on. It was a little too big for me at the time. Just as an example from one person. But in any case your point of the fact that we need to allow for these things as people grow as Christians is still something we need to consider.

I haven't seen all of the hashtags, but I'm guessing that you're balancing it out with some grace. Your willingness to write about personal experience really makes it instructional in a way that women will listen to. Younger women need people like you.

I've always wondered why brides would dress immodestly...
Jeff

Re: Stop Trying to Read the Bible in a Year!

Just what I was thinking. I would add that there are different types of reading. Joey is focused on what some would call 'devotional reading'. Reading through the Bible is more for familiarity. Studying is another. Exegesis is a deeper form of study. I like to do all of them, but not at the same time. When reading through the Bible, it's usually in 9-10 months or less. If I take too long, I forget what I read a few months ago already. Then I like to slow it way down, but read another chapter somewhere else to keep the familiarity up. I like reading through commentaries. I like the variety and all types are important. But I also made a commitment a few years ago, like Joey, to make sure to read the Bible every single day, which is the most important thing.

Re: Three things I’d like to see in the Christian blogosphere in 2015

What I like to see is bloggers writing about what God is teaching them. It seems the higher up you go, the less you read of those things. I try to write about it quite a bit, but then I'm way down the line.

Re: Three things I’d like to see in the Christian blogosphere in 2015

Regarding #2, I have some ideas, but that's a tough one. I think people criticize those outside of the church too much, expecting them to live as if they have the Holy Spirit, and leave the church be. People think you're being divisive. Sometimes I don't want to be 'that guy', the one who's going to be the one to offend my friends. I always do this with fear and trembling.

Re: A year of time-tested theology

What about Pilgrim's Progress if you need something shorter in between? It's often not for us to know. God will work out His plans for our growth, most of the time without telling us what He's doing. You will grow closer to him because of this, which is what He's after. Individual reasons are too lofty for us to figure out, and many times we can be wrong. In reading so many books and articles on suffering by Reformed authors, including many recommended by you, this is something I've learned from them, from experience in suffering from multiple chronic conditions and of course, Scripture.
