They'd be nuts to not sell it. And I wonder what the reaction would be if they were to face the fact that their beloved NLT is just as "bad" as the NIV regarding gender language. If they fight and win a few, if they're in most of the games, they'll be all right. They'll be much like the '84 Twins who went on to win the WS three years later. But if they don't even come close, if they lay down and die, it will do horrible things for their morale and the morale of the fans, and they might as well go home for the rest of the year.

Re: 2014 Minnesota Twins: A Team of Destiny

I understand, Collin. It seems crazy. But baseball is more than a game of athletic ability and stats; and more than luck is involved. In 1987, before the season started, I said I thought the Twins would win the division, beat the Tigers in the AL series, and go on to beat the Cardinals in the WS. It was crazy. The Twins weren't a great team, though they had been improving over the previous several years. Still, there was no way it could happen, but it did. I operated most of the season on the premise that if the Twins finished at or above .500 it would be a good year, but it turned out they were a team of destiny that year. And most of the time, whoever we see winning in any season, they usually seem to have some kind of magic going for them. Yes, it's too early to expect it to happen, so we'll just sit back and watch. But it could happen.

Re: Bizarre Ninth Gives The Minnesota Twins A Victory

So did the umpire(s) make the right call in the ninth? Should Nunez have been called out for running outside of the base path? (Can't call it a baseline because there's no line painted there.) I like the unis very much. The gold shadow is classy and refreshing, even on the caps. It's just a shadow, for crying out loud! Losing the pinstripes is a change, that's all. I'm very surprised nobody is saying anything about the reversal of the colors in the script logo, from red with blue trim, to blue with red/gold trim. To my eyes that's the biggest change, and one I've longed for for years. I'm just not a fan of red; blue is my favorite color, as simple as that. I say the Twins have done a nice job of refreshing their uniforms.

Re: Torii Hunter Might Demand Too Much Money For Minnesota Twins - Puckett's Pond - A Minnesota Twins Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Collin, do you think it's a matter of not affording Torii? After it broke a few years later I got a Mr. Coffee and was hugely disappointed with the quality of the brew. Then I discovered Walmart was distributing a Farberware drip coffee maker that used the same system as the old GE. I got one and was once again excited about my coffee. But now they no longer make the charcoal water filter for it. I discovered Hamilton Beach makes filters that will fit, but they don't make those any more either. So now I get to drink pretty good coffee instead of wonderful coffee. I'm just gonna have to get one of those water filter pitchers and do it myself, because water quality is a big part of good coffee!

Re: Top 10 Outfielders in Minnesota Twins History

Well, now we know the best-hitting outfielders in Twins history. Now, how about a well-researched story telling us who the best defensive outfielders were in Twins history? Hitting is great, but it sure helps to have somebody who can run down a fly ball in the gap and take a home run away from a slugger. I think the number one spot might be the same, but it seems to me few Twins outfielders could play the outfield better than Span. And I'm not sure if anybody could throw out runners like Cuddy. Playing outfield is more than hitting.

Re: Greatest Minnesota Twins First Baseman Round Two: Hrbek vs Killebrew

This one isn't fair. I know Killer played first base, but not all the time. He also played third, and in 1964 he was the Twins regular left fielder. I think Herby was probably the more adept first baseman. But when it comes to slugging, while Herby was very good, nobody in Twins history could knock them over the fence like Killebrew. Best at first, probably Herby. You wrote, "Both players helped the Twins teams of their respective eras reach the playoffs on a few occasions, but neither saw a World Series come to the Twin Cities." This sentence is clearly referring to both Dougie and Harmon, right? Has it slipped your mind that Harmon loomed large in the 1965 World Series, which most certainly saw four games played in the old Met? Or perhaps you meant to say that neither player saw a World Series Championship come to the Twin Cities. If so, then you need to be a little more careful.
