San Diego is gorgeous and essentially the Hawaii of California. The beaches are gorgeous and it's got quite a bit of absolute highlights that make Los Angeles look like a joke. When I moved to LA 5 years ago I didn't want to drop my area code (that one was spot on information in the article but most of the other stuff felt like cliche filler) because I didn't want to live here, I wanted to move back to San Diego. But maybe that was because I went from 858 to 661 (to be with family briefly) to 909. (family) to 310 and 213 for my time here thusfar.

If I had a choice 661 and 909 would never have happened but you're right when you say that CA is expensive. Those are the only reasons I could justify someone living in either zip code...or Riverside. (God help me you couldn't pay me enough to live down there, I'd rather move back to the freezing temperatures of IL)

For the record- 909 is NOT Los Angeles. There is nothing to be "proud of" for basically living in Inland Empire aside from the cheap housing. You may as well have been proud of living in Riverside with the meth heads because the 909 is only one step above that.

I will miss the 858 and 619 a TON when I move away. I will also miss so much of the 213, 310, and 323. But all those other area codes? Meh. Not as much... or at least that's what I'm saying right now so... who knows if that could change.

Neat idea but with as many taco trucks and roach coaches around the city as it is why would you want to go to a vending machine? Also: this doesn't look much cheaper than any other random taco shop so what's the big deal?

Maybe I've been away from home for too long but it's good to hear that this is returning to the way it was back when I left. At least I won't be fumbling around in a rental aimlessly looking for what was.. exactly where its going to be again.

I think the word the artist/article was actually looking for was "tacky" rather than "eerie." There is nothing spooky about these shots except that these people live in Los Angeles and have no concept of what good lighting aesthetics are.

While I'm sorry you are stuck in Bakersfield hell, consider this another perk of LA.

Also: you could be cross city and it would still take that long to get to those locations (and find parking.. especially at the Venice canals). The content invokes a spirit of Los Angeles and what better way to do that than *IN* Los Angeles where I hear the Dodgers play.

Feel free to visit our great city and spend some time here for one of the contest days if you'd like. Besides the Dodgers already calling it their "home base" it sounds like a pretty neat incentive to come down... and hey, maybe you can be a patron at one of the last games of the season and see the great talent for your own eyes in person rather than just being a guy on the internet writing about being a fan. Or you can just whine about it some more like you have already... Sounds like a tough choice there.

For those complaining about fundraising for a fanfic what makes it much different than someone funding for their cosplay costumes?

I wish this was still up to support. I would have liked to have seen their take on it... perhaps they could have done it where the estate and what not got major portions of it.

I've done all of the above except taking a homeless person to dinner... which actually now I feel that needs to be done.
One thing that I'd add, as I also love it, is the service called Postcrossing. You can send postcards all around the world and receive them as well. I'm starting a tumblr with all the postcards I've gotten so far and intend to update it as they come in. It's truly magical.

Number of followers is BS quite a bit of the time.
i say this bc i know plenty of marketing people who just use scripts to autofollow people and follow back.. they may not be bots, but they're still "cheating" imho.

and as far as the news posts.. have to agree with you wholeheartedly there. 99% of the time i find out relevant news via twitter. weather it's about an earthquake, someone needing supplies bc theyre stuck via a natural disaster, or even parties/my friends getting together.

And horray i sound like another twitter evangelist but it's pretty damn accurate.

The image itself is ridiculous and offensive. I can see it's political point, however if she's going to satirize a label of that proportion, there's clearly other ways it could have been gone about. She will and likely should lose. The brand may appear to be "bad guys" but from a business standpoint, it has a completely legitimate founding.
It would be a different story if she had consulted with LVMH first and had some sort of agreement. Had she done that, who knows, maybe LVMH would have assisted and matched some of the profits by contributing a donation for each purchased. A win/win.
