If you want to reduce the glare off the leaves, use a polarizing filter.  If you want to include that shimmer, don't use a polarizing filter.  I think the difference would be in the amount of light shining on the leaf.  If it's a lot, the glare will be too much but if it's a soft diffused light that lightly shimmers off the leaf, then don't use the filter and capture that shimmer.
