Maybe you mean "abutting." Or, a "butting in" neighbor? I'm intrigued that you don't come out and provide you name. The real abutters have all spoken with me and shared my distaste for the construction that is ruining our neighborhood this season. People do have the right to do what they want with their property. That's true. Still our neighborhood had a certain tone and what I still maintain is a "monster" house will change that.

Re: Medication And Female Moods

Glad for this discussion. I would also like to point out that we excrete all these chemicals in pee, and they go into the water supply. Pharmaceuticals are not removed by filter systems. Where I live on Cape Cod, we drink water from a sole source aquifer. Could you do a follow-up program on this topic, Tom, please?

Re: Three Cheers for Rejections! When I write "screaming," of course I do not mean actual screaming. I could have written "scolded soundly" and I actually spoke so fast that the Under-Secretary for Pesticides Use, or whatever her title was, couldn't get a word in edgewise, but do remember that I am fighting for a good cause, ie. the regulation of toxic chemicals in our environment, and that I did get a call back, which is unheard of. My suggestion that the EPA stands for Every Person Abandoned was actually adopted by a national organization fighting to stop GMOs, which my permission.

When I started this blog almost nine years ago, I was one of the few to stand up against plastic bags in the environment and toxic chemicals, reporting on Silent Spring Institute reveals in Hyannis, etc. This is not a blog only about Wellfleet and is not only for Wellfleetians. In fact, most readers are non-residents who have visited our lovely town at some point in their lives. Some readers have been coming here from the beginning, and it was one of those readers who suggested calling the blog Wellfleet Today. I don't think anybody thinks I represent all of Wellfleet, and I certainly do not make that claim.

Re: Wellfleet Today Blog - EPA Approves Toxic Herbicide "Enlist Duo

Peter, I don't give people any reason to scream at me. The EPA, on the other hand, did. And, my call received a response, so I guess they took notice.

Re: Wellfleet Today Blog - Katharine "Pings" Off Wellfleet

Update, Tuesday: Katharine pinged, swimming near the Wellfleet marina a pier. I do not dispute it. But this change impacts us because part of our B&B is the organic breakfast we serve and the opportunity to spend time in the morning with guests, guiding them in their visit of the area and often sharing views on the environment. This is part of what makes our B&B special. Somehow I feel there should at least be a level playing field. How do you compete when the neighbor offers his whole house for a lot less money? You don't. You end up by throwing in the towel.

Re: Wellfleet Today Blog - Go, Sydney Town Council!

I am not suggesting a fine. We Need A Vacation and other online rental sites impacted people renting our summer cottages and real estate agents because suddenly there was huge competition for weekly bookings. Airbnb, on the other hand, allows hosts to rent for short periods of time, ie. several days, and those short periods were, in the past, times when visitors chose bed & breakfasts. B&B hosts purchase a permit from the town, take a course in food handling, join the Chamber of Commerce, must have a special type of dishwasher, pay increased cost on insurance and are sometimes required to make changes to property, like installation of stair railings, for instance, by the insurance company. B&Bs with 3 or less rooms do not pay the room tax, which the hotels, motels, and Duck Creek Inn do pay to the town. If Airbnb stays were limited to one week, I would have less of a problem with the service. But they aren't. Also, Airbnb rates are lower than B&B rates.

Re: Wellfleet Today Blog - Do You Travel Gluten-Free?

Hi, Paul B. I asked Laura Kelley, an expert on this and here is her response that unfortunately your idea wouldn't work: "100 feet from public wells and 50 feet from private wells is stated in the YOP. Width of power lines is 200 feet. Fountain is not a water supply. Testing is thousand of $$$ & no one is willing to donate for this cause, so far."

Re: Wellfleet Today Blog - Local Legislators Write Governor On NStar's Spraying Plan

Hi, Peter. I have a response for you from Rep. Turner's former assistant: "I do not know of any legislation to change the laws on pesticide application, but I am familiar with the bill that Cleon Turner filed that would mandate negotiation between a town and a utility company if there is a dispute about vegetation management."

Re: Wellfleet Today Blog - Everyone Needs a Break

Why, thank you, Ruth. We wait until Cape Cod is added to that casualty list? I'm not writing here about people killed by outdoor and indoor pollution, so lets stay on subject, Peter. Proximity to Pilgrim is a serious problem. I suggest, regarding the young renters, that they become engaged in activism. You can never start too young. Personally, I considered solar panels and decided I could not afford them. With regret, of course. The power generated by Pilgrim is MINIMAL. 5% for all of MA? I'd like to see more people use less electricity. We need to all learn to turn off the lights when not in use, unplug appliances, etc.

Re: Wellfleet Today Blog - Garden Party Raises Money For Farmers' Market

Thanks for your comment, ChesterS.
