The prosecution can't really introduce character evidence regards the defendant (with a few limited exceptions). In this case, the prior bad act evidence should have come in under the "goes to intent" exception. It was just a (very) bad ruling by the judge.

For every person willing to show up for the truth, they could (and would) fill a bus with people willing to show up for the sake of the dream.

Scamming the rich is more lucrative... but it's also much more expensive and complicated. I don't think Don has sufficient talent to do it on mass. He can't even get big American banks--the ultimate rich greedy dupes--to lend him money.

It may, or may not, be interesting to note that the Trump University contracts that were exhibits in that now famous lawsuit did not contain arbitration or non-disparagement provisions. In fact, they included none of the standard one sided provisions. It was very strange. At the same time that James Arthur Ray was including "death waivers" in his onsite event contracts, this was basically the whole of the Trump U contract:

But they're not morons. They are mostly totally great, totally normal, people. Whenever there is a big media story about this kind of scam (like there was last week about this case) people plow into the comments to insult the victims... many going as far as to say that they 'deserved' it. It comes from a place of ignorance about the power of group manipulation, so it's maddening but understandable. But you're not ignorant--far from it--so it bums me out that you'd echo the sentiment.

1. Most things can't be appealed mid-case... but a motion to compel arbitration is one of the exceptions.

2. Appeals create law for your industry. That is particularly true with MLM where there is a distinct lack of actual laws on the subject. Do you want to turn a bad-for-you court ruling into a bad-for-you binding precedent? So that's the danger. And also, of course, you can come out of an appeal with an even less favorable ruling than you got in the district court.

I just started watching the Starz series. So far I think it sufficiently strange and fun and in keeping with the awesomeness of the book. Big fan of Ian McShane. He's gonna be a great Mr. Wednesday.
