Now, with the current crisis I can see the benefit of a temporary tax cut to those who have not received them in order to stimulate the economy. Will it work? I'm no Krugman and not sure if he even knows if it will. Bush was investigated at one time by the SEC for insider trading of his oil/energy co. He basically sold his stock and left shareholders hanging in the wind months later ...so he immediately upon entering the White House started watering down the SEC enforcement abilites. Don't get me started on the EPA and I am sure there are numerous regulartory bodies that the Bush Admin. has negatively affected. One telling anecdote is that when Bush left the Texas Governor's office as president elect heading to Wash, reporters asked him about the state of Texas' budget which was a surplus when he took office and was in the red by a billion or more when he left...his response" I'm just glad it's not my mess anymore" I suspect he will repeat a similar phrase in less than two weeks. </p>
