Dear Councilmember Steve Padilla, here are things to consider about Drag Queen Story Hour you may have not already considered.

2) Drag Queen Story Hour violates library law. Yes, a library is a public space, but it is not an open public space, according to the US Supreme Court. It has rules to follow. 3) And, generally speaking, not specific to Drag Queen StoryTime, the "Library Bill of Rights" literally means nothing. 4) Lastly, Drag Queen Story Hour is facilitated nationwide by the American Library Association, an organization that has an established history of homophobia and use of the LGBT community for its own gain. It's doing it again with DQSH. See "Gay Hate @ Your Library": https://safelibraries.blogs...

So please take those things into consideration. DQST may proceed in public spaces (other than public libraries) or in private businesses, but by law they are illegal in libraries.

You've had notice now of the possible illegality of the event, let alone that it harms the LGBT community and that it's pushed by an organization that makes homophobia a practice, namely, the American Library Association. Therefore, any harm that occurs at the library as a result of the event may be now laid at the feet of the municipality as well. Consider whether your liability policies can withstand any lawsuit resulting from any harm done. Any claims about organizations such as MassResistance will not protect your community from liability for harm.

This article itself is substantially false. School communities get to decide what is and is not appropriate for their schools, not a former CNN reporter. And there's more that is false.

But I am here because on Facebook I linked to this article and added a comment that was 100% accurate. I see Facebook has added a "feature" that tells people if my comment is false or not. Facebook said my comment was "False." My comment was 100% accurate even if the underlying link may or may not be 100% accurate. So I feel the Silicon Censors have found a new way to silence people.

Where do I go to complain to Facebook that it is using a fact checking source that is itself fake news?

My take away from this is that ALA should be doing more to help librarians prepare for and face these issues, and in a number of ways, but do so in an effective manner, not the ALA way that labels all whistleblowers as censors to be treated with silence and ridicule, which only escalates matters.

Well, the law requires the library to "promote an environment that is protective of the health and well-being of patrons and children while at the library facility." There is a legitimate question if adult entertainers of adult entertainment meet that standard--in a public library--under public library law.

Go, or stay, in peace. Your performances raised an interesting issue that is going to go on and may spread nationwide. And it has nothing to do with anything discussed above. Rather, there is an important legal issue involved, namely, may the library do anything it likes or is the library constrained, however narrowly/gently, by the law that created the library. In this matter the instantiating law requires the library to maintain certain standards, and specifically in part with regard to children. There is a legitimate question of whether performers of adult entertainment meet that legal standard or not. That issue is likely to go on and may affect libraries nationwide as people realize state laws take precedence over American Library Association guidance that, in some cases, harms communities. The last book ban in the USA occurred in 1963, over a half a century ago. The Hate U Give is banned nowhere, but claiming it is results in increased sales and particularly increased buzz about Banned Books Week that was founded in 1982, about two decades after the last book ban. Even Banned Books Week's founder Judith Krug said in the rare case a book is inappropriate for a school, "get it out of there." And she's no censor. "Get it out of there" may be a serious matter but it's not censorship, and claims Banned Books Week is about censorship only weakens true efforts to oppose true censorship. Schools and parents can and should make appropriate decisions for themselves about school reading materials without being instantly labeled as censors, as the American Library Association does.

I get that. But many librarians are harassed by porn viewers where the porn is being allowed per American Library Association diktat since it could be blocked by state law, depending on the state. ALA says such instances are dubious and that no librarian has ever been sexually harassed in such an instance and never will be. It's the same ALA that sets the policy to ignore state law and facilitate unlimited Internet activity that claims no one is ever harmed by its policy. Yet the harmed just keeps going on and on because no one does anything, or they make excuses like you did. Time's Up simply does not apply to librarians. Time's still running. Librarians keep being harassed -- as a direct result of ALA diktat.

And no, I'm not advocating against porn in libraries. That's the way to make me look like an anti-porn loon to avoid the truth. It makes me the target instead of the issue, though you did it in the politest way I've ever seen. The truth is ALA is misleading libraries to leave librarians and communities exposed to harm, and I am reporting on that so communities can make up their own minds. People like you who make me the issue enable librarians and communities to continue to be harmed by ALA diktat. Yes, I know what I said, but it was in the context of the above.

That's training the students to be subversive eventually should any get into government or NGOs then work together to bring down the existing government, just like is already starting to happen today. We write about these ridiculous jokes in education but the propagandization of children continues and there may come a point that breaks the camel's back.
