Keep the witchy woman, Mother Nature, at bay, when making your decision, my friend!

Temporarily I am staying in San Francisco, though I will likely be relocating to Minneapolis after I travel to Austria again.

Where would you consider moving?

Re: Seattle - I Hate Seattle

Keep in mind that this site is a sort of support group for people who detest the city. If you have qualms, keep your mouths shut, stop impeding our conversations and sharing of thoughts and ideas, and create your own website entitled: www.iloveseattle.com

And, let me tell you that Seattle is one of the most hated cities in the country, for exactly the reasons mentioned.

Re: Seattle - I Hate Seattle

Brilliant! I think that emotional scatology is pervasive in Seattle. Duly noted points, too, especially about the narrow-minded "open minded" people. Question them about the merits of their positions, and they will crucify you, in private of course.

Yes, whoever you are, you've lived too long in Seattle. May your soul seek and find salvation. Somewhere else.

Re: Why laptops at a coffee place?? - I Hate Seattle

Kudos to you, Gena93.

Places intended for socializing... pitiful. And, fuck you Tiptonizer, you antisocial, antagonistic piece of shit. If you actually got the fuck out of Seattle, T, you would realize that these settings are in fact intended for people to engage one another. Go to any world class city (of which Seattle is not), and you will see what life as a functional human being is about.

And, for that matter, how about kicking back, enjoying a good cup of coffee and reading the paper while having a stimulating conversation about... what is in the paper, and the coffee?

Fuck. You.

Re: The Top 10 Things that Suck about Seattleites - I Hate Seattle

Regarding #8: Here is why I got to the (admittedly sad) point where I never even bothered to approach or engage women-- If I attempted at conversation with them, or worse, tried to establish eye contact, they treated me as if I were a potential rapist. I got nothing but contempt from them-- and before you thrust this on me, let me remind you that I have thrived everywhere else I have been; San Francisco, New York, Europe. Accuse me of arrogance and conceit but I am exceptionally handsome, strong-featured and, more importantly, outgoing, personable, compassionate and intelligent. That didn't seem to matter to the man-haters that I so frequently encountered. In fact, my "assets", per say, were more liabilities than anything. And, my lone options: encounters with sexually-frustrated mothers, never appealed to me.

There is such a social disconnect in this city that, in the end, causes males like me (And there are plenty) to become discouraged, disillusioned and solely dependent on our right hands. So, worry not, lovely lady, they notice you. You will just never notice them noticing you :)

Re: Normality - I Hate Seattle

Yup. You know, when I was in Budapest, I was lost looking for my hostel, and, exasperated, I inquired to another fellow (We are both in our 20's) whether or not he spoke German or English. He spoke both, and actually volunteered to call the hostel for me. When they didn't answer, he called his friend to google it for me. To no avail. He then invited me into the bar for drinks, and then to his friend's apartment for homemade Hungarian spirits, wine and beer-- we conversed in broken English and German as we gazed across the Danube River. Experiences like these were not uncommon-- I traveled 13 countries in 10 weeks. After living in Seattle for most of my life, it had a restorative affect on my waning faith in humanity.

My point being, I guess, is, as you experienced, that all you have to do is get a little bit out of Seattle and its reaches to see what humanity, humility and hospitality are about. When I go to Vancouver, I truly feel like I am in a different country. It is a strange sensation.

Re: A strange sort of claustrophobia - I Hate Seattle

You know, I recall a time while working at a grocery store. It was late in the evening, and I greeted a customer with a sincere "hello", uttered at a reasonable decibel level. She literally recoiled and gasped in fear, as if she were so taken aback by the normalcy of person to person interaction. I admit that I laughed aloud.

People here are scholarly and academic; facets of life are intellectualized without being experienced or truly discovered. They act as if some sort of paper certification qualifies them as exceptional, meaningful human beings, and adds legitimacy to their recycled opinions. Pitiful pontificators. As my friend and I (We consider ourselves "Self-Hating Seattlelites", have said, "The only problem with Seattle are Seattleites themselves." He is heading to Tajikistan for four months, and I recently relocated to San Francisco after trekking through Europe for ten weeks.)

And, yes, humor is lost on these poor, begotten souls. Nary a smile, chuckle (except at the expense or ridicule of another) or laugh. Not even sardonic humor, as you would expect from the suffering.

Regarding the lease, I find that with most of the people here, if you actually assert yourself, they will cower and submit. I broke my lease because my landlord realized that I would do so regardless of the hypothetical consequences. And, for that matter, one of the members below is right: Most will accommodate so long as you find an apt replacement. Do it, and save your beautiful, precious skin!

Re: What am I missing? - I Hate Seattle

Joe, I would venture to guess that PeteNice has one of those TV-tans from overexposure to computer screens, television sets and video game consoles because he doesn't leave his basement apartment except to buy groceries at Trader Joe's, standing in line in his sweatpants and slippers.

PeteNice, I despise your typical Seattle attitude of "If you don't like it, leave."

And, Ellamarie, I believe that when Vancouver holds the Olympics, the Seattle natives will be forced to realize what a second-tier dwelling theirs really is.

Re: Seattle: pick a slogan - I Hate Seattle

BRILLIANT! I laughed heartily. Clever fellow, you are.

Re: YouTube Video: "The Seattle Freeze" - I Hate Seattle

Re: heartbroken.

You are absolutely right with regards to the oft used excuse of "Nordic Reserve". I was in Budapest and the only chick I hooked up with was a Norwegian, and we had a phenomenal time together :) She had no reservations about expressing her interest in me... In Seattle, I was so isolated- I am admittedly an attractive fellow and NEVER got any recognition, in fact, what I experienced was downright contempt and hostility from women. When I was in Ljubljana, the one fellow that I galavanted about the town with was... a Norwegian! In Galway, Ireland... the best fellows that I got on with were... Norwegian! And they have nothing in common with the degenerates from Seattle. To me this only goes to show that, in America, we are often descended from Europe's Rejects, not the best and brightest.

Re: YouTube Video: "The Seattle Freeze" - I Hate Seattle

I, too, watched that documentary earlier in the year. You make some valid points.
