Of course I don't assume that! I was making an analogy and used the word "when," because obviously not all parents hold their kids back and those who do so don't all have the same reasons. But the ones who DO have that reasoning share the same mentality as the type of parent who I was describing.

This is the first blog I've commented on that has nothing to do with my own site in ages. I'm on the site because one of the founders is a previous editor of mine. To be clear: I wouldn't call my local precinct, because I live in a city where a cop tells my husband to fuck himself simply for asking why he's blocking the bike lane. I have limited faith in law enforcement. My voice means nothing to the cops I've engaged with in NYC. Why would I waste my time calling my local precinct? I literally do everything I can to avoid police, just like 99% of people in this country, and I'm a blonde white woman.

MY profession is a PRIVATE profession. I don't represent the people, nor is my job to serve and protect American citizens. But yes, anytime someone wants to "interrogate" (i.e. ask) me a question, they're more than welcome to do so. PS: Funny you use the word "interrogate." That's what cops do. When a person who cops are supposed to serve and protect asks a question, what normally happens is the OPPOSITE of an interrogation. Just today my husband asked a police officer why he was blocking the bike lane (because my husband almost got into an accident) on the Brooklyn Bridge and the cop's response was "Fuck you." I will call my local precinct any damn time I want. I just don't expect anyone to actually *answer.*
